Ok I have 99 WJ with the 4.7l v8. Over the past couple of years we've replaced the 2 t-stats (1 napa and 1 mopar) and the radiator over 4 yrs ago. Pretty much always had issues with it running hot. In the winter it run 210ish (the heat sucks as well) and in the summer 210-235 if your easy on it but with the a/c on and minimal load the temps will start to creep. I'm just looking for some ideas on what it could be.

Thanks Chris K

That's on par with my 2000. Usually 210, but the other week with 100° temps it ran 235. If I idle with the AC on for too long on a semi-hot day I'll catch it creeping up from 210, or if I'm driving slowly uphill in the mountains for an extended period of time.

Things to think about are when was the last time it got a water pump? And how about the radiator cap? Also you could try some coolent additive designed to lower temps. What degree t-stat did you put in? Is the fan electric or manual? Hows the shroud and belt look? Just some thoughts.

Are both of your fans working properly?

Yes replaced the electric fan about a yr after the rad. When that elec fan quits you might as well call a tow trucks, the temps rose fairly quick w/o it. I wish it was like my toyota it rides at 170-180 all day everyday unless your on trails.

Never done a water pump, really don't want to, gonna trade/sell and get a 03-04 5.9 CR. I'll take a look at things this weekend, might do a full flush then add new antifreeze/coolant plus some water wetter. I want to say the stock t-stat is around 200-210, and you can not find a lower one or at least I couldn't. My best guess is a long time ago is that it had a bottle of bars head gasket repair put in it for some stupid reason. I'm thinking it's clogged passages and preventing it from cooling effectively. The things that gets me is that it can sit and idle and not overheat but going down the road at 70 getting almost an avg of 20 mpg it gets hot.

Its no good man ill give you scrap price for it!!! lol I hear that some have had this problem but was normally shit in rad, have you checked for air pockets possibly dont sound like it but never know!!!

No, I just started driving it alot instead of my yota. I do know at first start up it sounds like rushing water over near the heater core but never really payed much attention to it.
