As much as I hate to hear it, my dad is considering selling his CJ-7. Not that he wants to, but he and my Mom really need the money right now. I hate to be helping in this manner (I was really hoping I'd be getting it one day) but a son's gotta do what a son's gotta do. My dad is the original owner of this '81 CJ-7 Renegade. It was originally equipped with the Iron Duke GM 151ci 4-cyl. and SR-4 4-spd. While it still has the SR-4 (haven't been able to fund a new tranny), it now sports a 307-4V SBC. The exhaust is headers (Heddman maybe?) leading to 2-chamber Flow's with exhaust ran out the sides at 90*. The paint and interior are all original, as are the decals. The only body damage is a dented driver's front fender and the front bumper from a deer at 65mph. It is in the process of receiving a new windshield frame and glass. The paint has never been great on the passenger front fender, either. It sports 31x10.50x15 Wild Spirit Radial DTX tires on a stock suspension. No body lift either. Just wondering what y'all might think a fair asking price would be...

Pm sent

In response to the PM's sent, he's not really looking to sell right now. It's a last resort. He lives in the Augusta, GA area. We were just curious as to how much y'all would think this could go for. $3000? $4000? What?

Dude that is not worth 3-4k in my oppinion. Not even close... I would offer 2500 at best.

You are kidding right, that is a nice looking CJ, people pay good money for a CJ in that good condition

original Renegade sticker package, dont sell it for less than $4000, and you might get more on ebay

Go to Auto Trader, E bay, NADA and you'll get an idea what its worth. From what I see from the pics and my experience , I've seen jeeps like this one go from $2700.00-5000.00.

Hey,

CJ values are tricky. they're gold to some people, dime-a-dozen to the next. to me personally, Renegade or Levi or Golden Eagle packages don't matter much. i want to know motor/tranny/axles/body. it really depends on what you're looking for. the reality is, it's a V8 with an SR4 tranny . . . so it's going to need a tranny soon, lol. it appears to be m/s and m/b. generally not too big of a deal, but it matters to some. overall it looks like a fairly clean jeep. so assuming the floorboards are solid, i'd say it could bring $3.5-4k. more with the right buyer, less if you have to sell it quick. it's depressing when you think about it, lol. i may have sell my CJ5 for an engagement ring soon. i've spent WAY more on my CJ than i'll get for it. such is life though.

she looks straight...4k + easy...

and you gotta remember, there are alot less CJ-7's then 5's, so the dime adozen doesnt really apply to the 7.

Some other tidbits of info that could make it or break it. The Jeep itself (not the engine) has around 140K on it. Next to no rust (except those pesky chrome rims, but even they're in very good shape). It has the D300 T/C with the Narrow Trac D30 and M20 (still has the 2-pc. axles) with "highway gears" (2.79 maybe?).

BigMackLoud, what do you mean by "it appears to be m/s and m/b."?

And I appreciate all the responses. Thanks y'all.

manual steering / manual brakes.

If its rust free or very very little rust the jeep is worth 4-5K very easy.. maybe 6-7 if you find the right yuppy to buy it... Theres guys down in the Morehead City area that are paying 30K for retored jeeps, its crazy....

An old hot rodder said the best thing to me, about car prices, when I asked what he thought his car was worth. He said "It's worth what ever somebody will give me for it." Jeep and hot rods sort of fall into the same catagory. It all depends on the buyer. Yes, you can kind of bais it on what simular Jeeps are going for, but do not look at E-bay as a good point of referance. There are to many tricks out there. I would look for about 3 to 5K if I had to put a number on it.
