I thought this would be a good question for the masses
What do you wheel and why ?
I guess I will start .
What I chose to wheel first was a K5 just because when I was a kid that is what my cousin had.I then changed directions and picked up a XJ .The reasons for the XJ was it could be built in to a very capable rig on a budget .I recently picked up a ZJ .Why I like it is because you have use of a 4 coil spring set up and V8 power .Plus it is roomier on the inside then a XJ .

i wheel bc of the rush. it takes more than just a big motor or huge lift to wheel. its about the pursuit of the perfect set-up, the perfect tire flex combo or power to traction limit. its a thinkers game that allows you to push your own vehicle to its absolute limit. its the only sport where you find the limit only so you can overcome it.

I wheel an old school cj-5. Why? I don't know I guess cause my dad always told me to never own a jeep "they're dangerous" he said. I guess I've owned 5or6 so far. Funny thing is Dad helped me buy my first one. I've been a cj fanatic since I was 15 but I guess I'm going to graduate to a xj or zj since I have two boys now.

I guess it's just a Jeep thing.

This is what.

Why is because I need/want three seats and cant afford a 3 seater buggy and other than my CC PSD (it has a INT motor you know) I'm really a Chevy guy.Everybody talks about "the challenge" well I got a challenge for ya,try shovin a Saint Bernard thru the cat door.Fullsizes on the trail are kind of a thing of the past, and probably w good reason,I'm just a slow learner.I'm a big guy and never was comfortable in Jeeps, dont like a unibody, and never could/would afford a 4-runner.

I wheel a 1950 Wilys M38.I built her initially in 1991 and she has been with me through thick and thin. Why I wheel her? I love taking something vintage and stock and doing initially the same thing as new or modified vehicles can.Might not be able to climb that rock but I can drive it around tho.I wheel my 2001 wrangler when I need to but like using a condom,it just ain't the same.

Always have. Pops would take me wheeling in a ole 79 f150. I guess the Wildlife access on high rock lake what got me started. Man i miss that. Moved on to the rocks about 4 years ago. I enjoy the challenge and the scenery when I wheel in the mountains.

89 RamCharger. It was cheap, reliable, easy to maintain and modify, and the look on people faces followed by the "you took that through there?" is pretty cool.

Duane

79 Scout, 87 YJ (was badass), 89 XJ twice (freaking divorce), 87 MJ and now my current MJ.

Building things is my way of relaxing and decompressing. Wheeling is my reward for hard work. Racing is stupid and expensive, but the most fun I've ever had.

I've had several over the years, the current DD/WW is a 93 toyota, because it's cheap and capable in nearly stock form, and I keep my 78 F150 around because it's huge, useless, loud and intimidating, but fun to bash through mud holes and cruise the beach on. My favorite was the 2002 Durango I recently parted with, simply because it had enough power to tow the boat, and with a good set of tires and a small lift would go nearly anywhere I pointed it. I put it in some pretty serious places and only ever hooked the strap to it twice (once using 200' of strap and a 2wd truck on the bridge over the trail I was on). It looked good, drove like a modern SUV, had scratches on the roof put there by the ground (dragged the roof and passenger side down a ledge with 4 passengers in the truck and the left from tire chest high off the ground) and made many belivers out of people that said "you'll never get there on that"

I started wheeling in a '78 Blazer when I was about 7 years old with my parents. Always loved it since. My wife wanted a Wrangler back in '99 so we got one, now we have a TJ, ZJ, two sammy projects, and a Rodeo. We wheel now to get away from everyday life and escape into the woods for a few days of fun with family, friends and mother nature.

I've been wheeling an 87 Samurai for the past few years. I like it because it is very small and light.

I originally started wheeling an 85 FS Bronco, just because I already had it. I then built the Bronco into a 1-ton cab truck because I wanted to go more extreme, but it has some design flaws (lol), problems, and just feels heavy and clumsy and doesn't work how I would like.

I wheel a 48' cj3A
Because it's all I have ever had.

I've always wheeled full size Bronco's (80, 83, 2 87's, 89 and now a 79), from stock to moderately built. I chose them because Ford was bred into me (grandfather and uncles were Ford Master mechanics) and the Bronco was the best wheeling platform Ford offered IMO. I'm also a big guy, so I'm not really comfortable in other makes and models that are more compact (my brother has a 98 XJ, wheels awesome, just not enough room for me). Since my rigs are mostly weekend warriors and need to be driven to work or to run errands, if need be, I still needed the ability to be street legal, still be able to haul around other people, all the while carry tools and supplies in back.

As for why I do it...serenity and peace. I'm more of a trail rider than I am a hardcore wheeler, and I prefer a good two track and jsut enjoying the scenary. When I feel like blowing off steam or just flogging about, I'll hit the mud. I'm too chicken to try rocks. I also like a nice leisurely drive up and down the beach.

well i started with a dirt bike the a quad then i bought my first toyota built it to shit traded it and now have another toyota on tons the reason i wheel just like getting away from the road just enjoy rolling through the woods just kinda easy on the mind but i also really enjoy the rush during and after doing a nasty hill climb or what ever

I wheel well because my older brother had a built wrangler when i was 15 or so now ive been building my xj for the past 3 years and I love the adrenaline rush you get when you accomplish something challenging on the trail plus trail riding relaxes me

I 'wheel Jeeps. The reason for my obcession came from listening to my dad, a WWII veteran, talk about how awsome Jeeps were. My 1st 4x4, though, was a '78 Bronco.

I've always wheeled Toyotas, usually my DD and up until a few weeks from now, stock. The new rig will be a lifted '84 4runner with 35's, dual cases, locked rear, fuel cell and totally built or modified by me. In the home stretch for finishing by the time URE opens.

I wheel a 2010 JK 4 dr. Reason? Its the baddest mother effer in the shadow of the valley of Death and it fears no evil. I do however wish the damn belly plate wasn't so low to the ground. Stupid thing is always hung up on something.:flipoff2::flipoff2: Plus it has power windows, cruise control and air conditioning. All very important when trying to get over the speed bumps at the mall.

I wheel a beat to death TJ. Why? Long story, but I'll shorten it. 7 years ago, I wanted something to wheel. My old CJ7 was a rusted out turd from too many years in the north and I wanted another CJ in better shape. As I was looking for a suitable jeep, my DD truck got stolen. I needed something to carry my newborn in so the ex-wife thought a CJ wasn't a good idea. Enter the TJ. Since then, the TJ is no longer a DD and I've also inhereted my late father's CJ3B. I'm swimmin in jeeps and couldn't be happier.

86 4Runner mainly because I couldnt ever get in touch with anybody selling an 85 until after I got mine. But I like chevy and ford but the Yotas I now have a soft spot. My next will be a K-5. But I mainly wheel it because I needed something that I could throw all my crap in for college and I wanted it to have a lil fun offroad and to have something 4wheel drive to build.

I wheel an 04 TJ because when I was young my grandad had a CJ and my dad had a zj. we always talked about how cool jeeps were. they got us to every camping trip and back with no trouble at all. also because when I was younger the wranglers were always the nice "expensive" toys that poor boys like me never thought I could ever afford. well now I got one, and I still cant afford it!  J.E.E.P. just empty every pocket.
