I usually trust people, but about 1 month ago, I replied to post by a member who was looking for a wire harness for his TJ.
I told him that I had it, and would send it to him (he was in a hurry to get it), without him paying me. He said he was very appreciative and would send me the agreed $60 asap. He also added that he would have done the same (sending it before being paid).
A week went by and I contacted him and asked about the money. He said he sent the check via mail.
I never got it.. I called him again, and he said that it was sent but maybe to a different address, so he would send me another...
Never got that one, so another few weeks went by and I called him. He said that his bank showed both checks cashed, but couldn't tell me who or where they were cashed.
I think he is making this up. If I sent someone 2 checks, and both were cashed, I would want to know where my refund was.. Wouldn't you? He never did that, which makes me think he is not telling the truth.
I also offered hm my paypal address too..

I prefer not to say the name of the guy yet, but will PM him about this thread, so he can defend himself.

Anyone have any suggestions? We aren't talking much money, but it is now the principle.

Thanks for the help and advice,
Ricky

This is easy to resolve.
The bank will have a photocopy of the signed check. At my bank this is free, they have a link beside every transaction on my online account you can click and it shows the check.
Simply ask him for a copy of it. Hell he should post it here in this thread.

And if this is actually true, there are cashed./signed checks, but they aren't your signature, then he has a fraud case to take up with his bank.

Exactly... He won't answer my calls, PM's or email.
This is why I don't think he sent the money in the first place.
But, I am giving him the benefit of doubt and allowing him to defend himself and or come clean..
Thanks for your response.

BTW.. I had moderator approval prior to posting this.

I totally agree, that 1. He's probably lying and 2. that it would be easy to provide a copy of the returned check. If the check was written to you and they cashed it for someone else the bank it liable and will refund his money.

What makes it worse is that he's not repling.

Ricky is a solid guy, I've bought a few parts from him and I have no reason to doubt his word.

Over $60.

In my opinion, rather it be 5,50,or 500 dollars, the man has been lied to and cheated. I know what I could do with 60 dollars and I'd be pissed also.
Ricky,I know you aren't a paid member but if you bring out his name,I believe it would be best in the garage first and then later in the general forums.Somebody who has access to the garage might know this person and get the news to him that he will have to explain himself or pay up.

Thanks for the advice and good words on my behalf.
I sent the guy a link to this thread and won't post his info at least until he has the chance to read this, and get back to me. Or, reply to the post.
His last activity on the forum was Friday, so I know he probably hasn't read the post. Or, hasn't logged in to read the post.

It definitely isn't about the money now... But who may be next with him????? You ????

He may even be a stand up guy and show that both checks were forged

I am in no rush, since it has already been a month.

Thanks again, Ricky

Why did you send a part without getting paid first? That's not good business man.

It's good business if you wish to extend a nice gesture to a ''supposedly'' good guy on a great forum. Problem is, although we are a somewhat tight knit community, idiots still lurk.

He was trying to help a guy out. Thats not the point of this thread anyway.

I've done it MANY times, and have been lucky, guess I'm stupid too.

Exactly, and for the most part everyone on most of the 4x4 forums know each other, so it isn't like we are all strangers.
Of course, if it was a high dollar item, I probably wouldn't have sent the part.
But, who is to say, if you pay me for a part, and I don't send it, there really isn't much difference in that. Other than a blatant screwing...

Thanks for keeping this thread going, I hope the guy shows up and tells his side. I am eager to hear it.

Hope it all works out for ya man. We need to wheel again sometime.

I say you own him over $60. It's not cheap, but you have full rights to talk shit about him as much as you want until he pays you.

That was only because the gears were supposed to be new and they had been previously installed and were in near new condition. To the guy that started that thread it must have been a big deal.

I am thinking there is always two sides to every story. I am waiting on the other. I have sent the guy an email directing him to this thread.

I have both sold, and bought without payment up front. Most times it works out great. Most recently I bought a Bikini top for my Jeep. Transportation became available quick and they seller give it to someone, to bring to me, without any cash in hand. I paid him and all was good. I appreciated his trust in me. Too bad it doesn't always work out like this.
