a site for names of business'?

This day and age, check godaddy.com too and make sure that domain name isn't taken.

That site only lists corporations. My company name comes up with no matches but I have it registered as a sole proprietorship. Go down to the register of deeds and have them do a search for you. If the name you want comes up empty you can apply for it for like twenty bucks. I got my business license, "ficticious name statement" (claiming your business name) and set up my bank acounts all in about four hours.

...unless you actually file to be listed I don't think your sole proprietor name is procted, in other words you can call yourself Sam Hinton Construction and so can I.....but if you want to prevent ME from doing so I think you will need to file with Sec of State.

I have a client that their name is spelled with no 's and their is another with the 's, both are listed with NCSOS, one is LLC, other is INC. Has caused SO MUCH confusion in our lives, they are constantly screwing up and giving out wrong info.

Sam

I did file with the state got the paperwork to prove it. You can call yourself whatever you want as long as you do your finances as your own perssonel finances. Once you try to start opening bank accounts and applying for credit its required that you file with the state. Im not sure why my name dosent show up under the name search so I just assumed it was because Im not incorporated yet.
