Quick run down. I got a phone call from a guy with a small weld job for me to look at I stopped by to look at it and it turned out to be a massive undertaking. He wants a wood splitter that will hook on a trackhoe and a skid steer. After looking at his steel pile and scratching my a.... Head I took the job. Day one taking a 1 foot by 1 foot block of steel 3" thick on a mill for the wedge. Cut the 8" I beam to length gluing them together with about 10 pounds of rods

CRAZY GLUE! Nothing Holds like Crazy Glue!:p

Here's a log splitter we're building at work. I'm 6'3" to give you a size reference on the size of the splitting wedge. Using a cylinder with a 4" shaft and 40" stroke to push the logs. It's also going to cut the logs to length before dumping them into the splitter.

Aka firewood processor. Very nice. I was just contemplating last night how to build a sawmill and integrate a firewood processor.

Not getting to work on this as much as I want but here is the pusher block and wear guide's finished

Very nice! I always thought this guy was driving, but I think he's actually pushing a log onto a splitter and then hitting the lever: :driver:

Cylinder mount done on to the attachment for the trackhoe and skid steer

After the other dude posted the processor pick I got confused until I looked over the thread in its entirety! @loose cannon , seems that whole bit was out of salvaged material or customer supplied components or both. I like the use of the on hand stuff. Builds like this express creativity and dealing with what you got. Nice to see a man get paid for his efforts too. BTW interesting method of arresting the cylinder on the non functioning side. Your probably going to have to add some wedges to that knife at the back, looks like the flat bar is about 2 inches or so out from each side with no slope, that square edge is going to hang stuff pretty bad. Can't be sure by the pic. If the owners conscious of the capabilities of that cylinder and your work is solid it should serve its purpose for a long time.

I did think about and cut 2 pieces of flat bar to go in the corner's but I took two 2/4 and ran them down the wedge it cleared by 6" or better I can still put them in later if it causes a problem. And yes the customer supplied all the metal I just did the work thanks for the complement I am a fan of yours on the killer welds thread

Thanks haven't posted to much on that lately, I think I'll post some of my custom splitter. Built one for an uncle. He hatched some ideas, I helped em come too. I swore if he ever sold it I was first inline. Well after several yrs. I had to eat my word and pony up 1800 dollars! Damn bit higher than I thought I should have to give, but I held up my end of the statement.

I will leave this here to inspire you....

holy mother of wood splitters..dam that's the coolest thing i've ever seen...talk about effortless splitting
