I have a couple rigs I'm trying to get to my shop. I really don't have the time/want to, to go get them, ultimately just storing and giving a buddy a place to tinker. Neither vehicle is operable, they're in his garage, he has triple A, roughly a 10 mile tow. I know there are some restrictions on what can be towed, and don't want to call and ask if the vehicles can be towed because I'm sure that will result in 'if you have to ask, it's a no'. Both are 90's Fords, a Bronco and a super cab. I seem to recall there was a thread on here about 'no offroad vehicle tows' and that included a visual of 'aggressive tires', and I assume there's a wheelbase restriction. Can anyone provide insight on that? Will they even do a tow from a garage to a shop? Or tell him to push them in to the street and claim to be broken down? Will they return for a second vehicle? Or avoid all the headache and just have him pay the $2-300 in legit tow fees?

I know when I had to have my jeep towed the tow truck driver said triple A wouldnt cover it since I had oversize tires (jk take offs). Then said he only accepts cash as payment. He cuts me a "deal" so the tow was only 300 dollars from north wilkesboro to kernsville. My mom since all of our triple A stuff is under her name filled a complaint because it was weird and bs because 32 isnt over sized. And they reimbursed us the money and some extra for the inconvince.

Only thing I know for sure is the vehicle has to have a current tag.

Like a legit current tag, or they just want to see a tag on the vehicle that has a current sticker that may have come from another vehicle???

Yeah, these are 33-35" swampers...sooooo

You don't have a local tow guy like we do that will tow 10 miles for $50?

Honestly don't know...last time I was involved in a scenario that needed a tow, and I didn't personally do it, was probably 15 years ago.

Anyway...looks like the Triple A option is probably not gonna happen then...was pretty sure I knew the answer, but wasn't sure if it was like UHaul where you can tell them you're towing a chevy cavalier and then you put a full size truck on it when you get it home.

This. The guy we use at work (Johnny's Towing for anyone in Fayetteville) charges like $40 or 50 for the first 10 miles. He brought a customer's car back from Raleigh for less than $200.

Heck.. I know two/three different towing companies, depending on exact area here (Rutherford/polk county area is huge) that will haul local for $40-60. I've got 20 mile tows for $60. Ymmv. Sounds like @Tim C has the hook up for his area.
