I pulled a rear axle Saturday from a 2005 2500 with a 6.0.
It had the AAM version of the old 14 Bolt.
Only real differences that I could find online are a different pinion bearing, factory disc brakes, Ebrake, slightly wider WMS, and a little beefier housing.
I decided I would come out ahead if I bought it instead of using my ‘78 14 Bolt cause just two brake brackets are $70 and I will need calipers etc...
I removed it from the truck, got it home and noticed it has a drain plug right on the bottom of the housing.
Has anyone still done a 13 Bolt shave kit while retaining the factory drain plug? It looks to me like I need to cut right through it, which means I would need to plug/fill the hole.
I know I could do the full 15 Bolt shave and weld the plate on the bottom of the housing, but that’s bigger $. And I already have a 13 Bolt cover.
Should I just run my ‘78?
Or try to shave this one?
