Anyone go through the process? We have a truck that has been sitting at a friends house. The guy whose house it was at doesn't have the title. He said he tried to get it from his friend and the guy wont give it up. Does this fall into the NC Abandoned vehicle requirement. My other ooption is to try to find a wrecked Ranger with a VIN and swap the cab and dash. This is for an old 88 ranger

I would have the friend put a mechanics lien on the vehicle for storage fees for it sitting in his yard for how ever long. If the fees arent paid by the owner then the vehicle will be forfieted and DMV can award your friend a new title in his name. Then he can sell it to you.

If you do a cab swap it is legal. Vehicles are titles by the cab so as long as you get one with a title you are good. If your buddy has a bill of sale I think he can take legal action to get the title. Not sure on that though.

Luckily the guy who initially sold the truck didn't get the title for my guy and the Local Police are helpful and called the guy that sold the truck. He was facing 5 felony charges. Mainly cause the dad never gave him the title. The dad quickly agreed to help. We are now waiting for the title to come back from the Dad. We will see if it actually comes to me.

I'm gonna jump in here instead of starting a new thread....

I've read through some older posts, but didn't find what I wanted (or wanted to hear)

Long story short, I now have a 1953 Dodge Power wagon that was bought for parts, however I feel that is worth trying to save. The previous 'owner' only got a bill of sale when he bought it years ago, but he doesn't know where that is or remember the guys name that he bought it from. It has since passed through at least 2 other people with no paper trail since it was gonna be parted out. I know that the truck isn't stolen or anything like that, and I haven't talked to DMV about this, but does anyone have any advice on the procedure I may have to take and try and get a title. I'd like to get this thing on the road and save it from the scrap heap.

Thanks

95% sure what you want is a "bonded title". Dig around for that.
