? about first DIY transmission install

check the pilot bearing while you have it out.

Check hell!!!!! REPLACE!
I just did a clutch in the yota, and with the dubler the Trans was 42" long!! I used a 3/4 piece of plywood and mounted some old caster wheels on the bottom then mounted two Honda screw Jacks to the top. Rolled it straight back and right back in very easy!!
If you have a long Trans and a manual the Trans jack can be a little tuff. Good luck!!

Uh...you may have an issue FINDING the pilot bearing o_O

Probably replace the tcase input seal while you have them separated. I'd also change out the rubber mounts if they are old just as preventative maintenance. Make sure your stock motor mounts are in good shape, I've seen engines become very unhappy when you angle them down when pulling the trans out.

Like it was mentioned before, wear gloves to save your hands. Lots of sharp aluminum down there.

The OP has a 42rle transmission which is automatic therefore does not have a pilot bearing, finding it is rather difficult when it doesn't exist.

But...if this was a manual trans truck, I agree.

Might be worth mentioning to make sure the converter is fully seater before trying to shove it in. I watch while doing autos is the the converter spins freely until the bellhousing Is tight - never try to pull the transmission up with bolts or nuts unless it's a very small gap.

Sorry! I definitely took my retarded pill today!! Didn't even read that it was an automatic. So yea on the converter should be 3 clicks then it is in all the way. its a good idea to turn it as you push on.
