sorry if i didnt spell that right... damn word

anyway, i just picked up a torch kit and am in need of tanks. what are my options and what is some pricing? i've heard that new is expensive... so can you get used?
Thanks

YEah you can get used. Most of them are anyway. I have seen some killer deals at trade lots and in trade papers. A co-op welders supply can help you too

welders supply off of ebenezer church. best prices i've found for the gas itself so far. not sure how much they charge to buy into their oxy/acet tanks. i "own" mine. even if you buy tanks, they just trade them out whenever you refill. you don't technically own the tanks. if i remember, it was only about 40-50 bucks to buy in for my argon/co2 tank from there. after you buy in, you just pay for the gas after that.

there is a place on ebenezer!?!? is it back in the industrail park behind the quarry? damn and all this time ive been driving to capital to get my tanks filled

its back behind carmax in that industrial park.

yep... coming out of raleigh on 70, take a right onto ebenezer... 2nd or 3rd left will be lease lane. it's off of that. national kept on jacking their prices up, these people are MUCH cheaper. service is 10 times better also, national only seemed interested in their larger accounts. someone who only needs gas every few months didn't register on their radar.

I was told by the guy at welders supply that they will take the national tanks on the refills but that national won't take theirs. So once you go to welders supply you won't be able to take the tanks back to national.

I'm not saying not to do it, just be aware of the possible tank trading restrictions. I agree that national doesn't seem to care about the little guy. National seems to have the attitude that they are the only game in town. I'm debating about geting my national tanks filled at welders supply and forgetting national. I'm just not sure how long that place is going to last on Ebenezer though. National has been around for ever.

If you're not sure how long the little guy (welders supply) is going to last, seems like to me a good reason to go there and help him last, even if it costs ya a few extra $$.

that is correct. i had national tanks, and traded them to welders supply. i don't think they do near the volume of national, but i think they do okay. it's not the clusterfawk of people that are always at national, usually just one maybe two guys in there working, and maybe another customer. you're in and out in a few minutes, and they're super nice the whole time.

national will take whatever from my experience. they dont even look at the tanks before they give you new ones most of the time

So what have we learned from this metty? Don't get cole to drive to capital blvd to go to national anymore, when you can WALK your big butt over to welders supply now. :flipoff2:

Don't forget to add in shipping on those heavy SOB's...

how much are they? i kinda doubt you'll save much if any buying tanks vs. buying in to welders supply tanks. better hope or make sure they'll even take the tanks you're buying too.

when i talked to the service guy at Bolton he said that you had to make a $600 down payment on tanks before you could rent them. but i havent called welders supply to see if thats true or not.

oh yea Ivan, i need to get my green box from your shop very soon.

I suggest you buy your own. That way you don't have to deal with where you can get them exchanged, or if you move somewhere else, or decide you don't want them anymore. As has been said, if you look you can find them pretty cheap. I watched ebay and there was a guy within 100mi that wouldn't ship, so I got them super cheap and just picked them up. The price of the gas itself is going up pretty rapidly, so make sure you turn them off every time too.

yeah, on large volume commercial accounts places generally charge a larger upfront payment, or you pay a monthly fee. my argon/c02 tank only cost me a one time fee of ~50 bucks for the largest one.

that's why i traded my tanks in for national ones. no one around would fill them anymore. if you move, just turn them in and get new ones wherever you go. if you don't want them anymore, you just turn them in. you also don't have to wait for them to be filled, just a quick exchange, pay, and you're gone. if you're getting them alot cheaper and you're sure local places will take them on exchange or fill them, go for it. otherwise, it makes alot more sense to just buy into their tanks.
