Folks have asked for the ability to visit the forum without having to look at ads, and here it is. For the low, low price of $20/year, you can browse the NC4x4 forums ad-free. You'll also receive all the same perks that the regular orange diamond subscriptions.

Thats awesome! Does that cover the ads that pop up on certain words, too? For instance, If I run my cursor over the word "account" in the second line of your post a window pops up for a $1000 walmart gift card. I know, I know. Its a great offer. But...

Uh... if you're getting that, it's because of some kind of virus or something. *THAT IS NOT COMING FROM NC4X4*

We run no more than two image/banner ads on each page. Guests see a rectangular ad in the first post on the page, too. That's it. No pop-ups or viglinks or keyword ads or anything else.
 
Oh, and I should probably mention that you'll still see ads on the front page (the news page, not the forum list) until I can get a few bugs worked out. But that's only one banner ad.

Shawn, which is better for you - ad revenue or the $20? Cuz, they don't bother me that much, and I'd rather support you in the way that best benefits you and the board.

I don't mind the ads, I know it might keep some costs down. Just keep doing what you are doing.......It is a great forum and I thank you!

Maybe it's me..... but I dont's ess any adds, or atleasrt any that get in the way. What does bug me is the random highlighted words.

Random highlighted words with ads attached to them *is not* being generated by NC4x4. That's a virus/malware/something on your computer that's adding them in.

Really? HMM good to know. How do you get rid of that. I run MALWARE from time to time and I run Symantec End Point..........

Honestly... not sure. I did the math based on 2011, tried to work out what each user was "worth" based on the ad revenue vs impressions. I can break out the ad money based on whether the person was a guest (or not logged in), a logged-in member, or a logged in member with a diamond. All said and done, I figured the number was $13-16 ish ... the math is kinda fuzzy, but it's close enough to $20 (with the $5.50 added back in) not to really matter one way or the other.

It's all based on averages. Some ads pay more than others, ads pay better some times of years more than others, and some users look at more (or fewer) pages than others.

If you really want to help, go find about 1000 friends and get them to look at 10-15 pages a day. That would boost revenues quite a bit. :lol:

Not sure how to get rid of it. It could well be coming from a toolbar or something that you've got installed in your browser.

There's the *slimmest* of possibilities that it could be caused by some malware actually installed on the NC4x4 server, so if it's more widespread, I'd like to know about it. I do a pretty good job of keeping the server secure, but it only takes one crack for somebody to get in.

I have no other tool bar other than the regular explorer bar. The only other forum I hit is RCCRAWLER and I see the highlighted words there also. The old lady used my laptop while the desk top was down, she was always doing something stupid on FB or something and that's about the time I noticed it. Probably time for a good cleaning out.
 
so theres a bean counter in the system that keeps track if we click on an add? And if so...does it pay more, the more we click on adds?
 
So if I just click on an add then back out of it i still get paid? If thats the case maybe I'll hit them a little more often just to help out with diapers!

Usually the only time I ever see the random high-lighted words are when I'm not signed in. Same with Pirate. Lot of times I go in there without signing on.
