Advice on gettin a YJ thats been up north

Well I picked it up and now the fun begins. Frame seems solid besides the rear upper shocks mounts that will need replaced eventually.

Any advice on how to get ride of the frame rust and prevent future rust?

I was planning on using a grinder with wire wheel to get off as much as possible then coating it with something like POR-15.

If I remember correctly someone makes a kit to replace the rear upper shock mounts which moves them a little for better perfotmance. I believe it was a bolt in (with some drilling).

POR-15 is usually a good choice. It will at least buy you time in the problem prone areas.

I will see if I can dig up some pics of my long lost YJ for you.

MORE makes extended shock mounts back there, but makes use of the extended shock brackets. http://www.mountainoffroad.com/_e/dept/45-001-006/Shock_Mounts.htm

ruffstuffspecialties.com probably has some mounts too

Any pics of your old setup by chance Bob? Thanks

I uploaded the pics from the internet archive of my old website to the album portion on here. I think this will take you to the album but if not you should be able to get there from my profile.

They are not in order. You can see the Jeep progress from 30x9.50's with shackles to the BDS lift with 33x9.50's then 33x12.50's to 35x12.50's with the TJ flares and cut fenders.

Good Luck with yours.

Bob
