I'm about to graduate with my associates degree from a little community college in North Eastern NC and I plan on transferring to UNCW. I own a 2000 7.3L F250, and do not plan on taking that to Wilmington. Right now I plan on selling that, then getting something new. I want to get either a mid size suv, or 1/4 ton truck. I used to own a 03 tacoma, but my dad needed it. I've looked into the 4runner, xterra, and pathfinders. As far as mid size trucks I've looked into (newer) tacomas and the frontier. I've also considered a wrangler because they're so fun, but you can't fit jack Sh!t into them. I've driven a few of these vehicles, I'm just trying to decide what would be acceptable in Wilmington. What do you guys think is the best do it all vehicle?

If the truck is paid for, drive it!!! Out of the options listed most will get about the same mileage.....

id keep the truck and get some kind of cheap car or small truck just to drive to school. Thats always worked out good for me, cant beat a $1500 ranger

I live 4 hours away from Wilmington. I'm trying to sell my truck to get something reliable for the long commute, but still not a little car (because I like carrying things).

Keep the truck and get a volvo wagon for cheap cheap!

Buy a moped and a ramp to load it onto the back of your truck for the long haul home.

Don't think the F250 can handle 4 hrs to Wilmington? I'd definitely keep that and maybe get something else to drive. Ranger, S10, or something along those lines.

You'll kick yourself in the ass later on if you want a diesel truck again. I was in downtown Wilmington for a buddy's wedding and it was also the Azalea Festival and was driving my 86 K30 around no problem. Granted, it was crowded and I got way too much attention, but I see no reason to not just keep your truck.

Are you wanting to take this new vehicle wheeling?

Keep the truck. 7.3s are getting harder to find and the value seems to be going up. I agree that you will regret getting rid of it. Especially if its paid for. But if your hearts set on selling it we'll be looking for it on here. But again I highly urge you to keep it.

It's not that I don't want to keep it, it's a hell of a truck and drives fantastically but it's not that practical for me to have it. Yea I do work with it, but with the family business we have an 08 Siarra 2500HD.

Probably not. Already have too many expensive hobbies.

Then I would buy either a 4 or 6 cylinder car of some sort since fuel mileage and reliability seem to be your biggest concerns.

you haven't said the purpose of the new car. It helps to know why the Truck is not good for you in Wilmington, and what you want out of the new vehicle.

Either a mid-size suv or truck. I'm a scuba-diving instructor so I'd like something with enough room to carry my equipment. I also like going on camping/ski trips, and am usually the driver. So I'm looking for something mid size with decent room and decent gas milage (20-23 hw). Right now it's between a 4runner, cherokee, frontier, or a tacoma (despite them being pricy).

I'm 6'3" and have no complaints about being cramped in an XJ, ZJ or WJ but thats just my opinion. No Cherokee (XJ, ZJ or WJ) will get 20+mpg though.

A 4-runner is much worse than a Cherokee. My sister-in-law has one. I am 6'4" and feel like I need to peel myself out of it when I drive it. Tacoma that a friend used to have was the same, although his was a stick so that probably emphasized it when I drove it. Cherokees feel bigger than both of those to me when I drive them.

They're nice, but I'm not so sure about the room. I'm 6.2, so I need something with good cab room. Last Cherokee I drove was an 98 xj and that was from Raleigh to home (2 and a half hours) and it was pretty cramped.

I feel your pain. I'm an honest 6'2" with a long torso. My head rubs the roof in an XJ. I recommend a full size Bronco, LOL! I've owned two of them. Or a 2-door Tahoe. I've owned one of them too. The Tahoe actually got good mpg on the highway with stock size tires.

Not 20+mpg all the time, but my wifes 95 ZJ gets about 22mpg highway with a 4.0 and automatic. Typical around town drops to 18ish.

The WJ I used to have was stock with a 4.0, auto, selec-trac and think best I saw in it was maybe 20mpg on the highway. Been a few years though, so I maybe remembering wrong.

2005+ tacomas have plenty of room inside (not sure if the 4-runners have less or not). 2004 and older Tacomas/4runners are NOT for tall people. My wife's 99' 4runner is very uncomfortable for me after about 1-1.5 hours of driving. I feel like I had more room in my 95' regular cab Tacoma than her 4runner, my current 96' Tacoma has lived it's past two years in the basement so I don't remember how much room they really have! I am 6'6", so if you are a slender 6'2" then older model Tacomas would probably be perfectly fine, hefty people that aren't tall still would feel very cramped in one though.

I vote keep the F-250. Unless you are lucky enough to have someone buy another truck for you, I feel like a paid for vehicle is better than something that is going to cost you money. The F-250 will hold it's value much better than most anything else you buy as well, if you take care of it at least.

Just for clarity, the Tacoma I drove was a 2000. Sis-in-law's 4runner is an 07.
