So, the wife and I just picked up a 2013 Mazda 3 i Touring Monday and the one thing the wife wants is HID's.....Now before anyone says anything...these cars already come equipped with projectors. Now, I have done alittle research and found that a company called TRS ( The retrofit source) makes a good kit...but is $150...the wife doesn't wanna spend that kind of money at the moment....she really doesn't want to do anything to this car AT ALL...but I told her that if she wants HID's you gotta do something...but she wants to see if there is a cheaper but still good option out there.... I have seen some kits of course on ebay and I have heard some decent reviews...just not sure if you guys have any expierence on any HID kits.

I know most of you guys are gonna say go with whats good reguardless of price...but just wanna see if there are any other options/

I have a set in my truck, about $60 from ebay. They work well.

Everybody I see coming my way with aftermarket HIDs gets the fawking brights.

I figure, if I can't see anything, they shouldn't be able to see anything either.

Go to LED designs in Greensboro. They are off Patterson right behind Stameys BBQ. He will supply and install them for about $150 and come with a great warranty. If you ever have an issue he will fix it no problem.

And HIDs are great to have. Got em in my jeep and had them in every vehicle before besides what I drive daily now (not worthy of HIDs)

As for bright lighting me because I have better headlights than you, it doesn't matter. When people bright light me, it seems like they are shining a key chain flash light or something. It does nothing.
But I have always re-aimed my lights downward after installing them, and rarely have that issue.

Is that in the same lot as KC Extreme Machines? If I can get him to install them for $150...I might be into that...that will make the wife feel better since I won't be doing the work :)

Yep. He is right next door to them. I have always installed them myself. Bought them off eBay for cheap. But I had ballast issues, color issues and nothing I could do about it. I bought the housings, H4 HID kit and relay system from him to put in my TJ. They are by far the brightest I've ever had and I haven't had a single issue from them. Been knowing the guy for years before he opened the place. He's a douche bag but he knows lighting!

When you go there you will probably talk to Amber. Jason is the owner but always busy. If you talk to Jason or Amber tell them Phillip sent you. I'm not 100% sure on the pricing but it should be close to that.

I also got all my interior lights replaced with LED bulbs I got from him. Much brighter and matches my head lights. Ask him about rock lights too.

Basically anything you want lit up, he can do it or supply you with the stuff to do it!

why do most people with HID's feel the need to have them on all the time? I know most of the ghetto blasters and suburban rednecks around here do anyways.... I don't have a problem with them. My wife wants them on our '11 KK. I want to do LEDs...

Hids in your halogen projectors will not have a good cutoff. Granted they will be better than hids in a halogen reflector housing. Please if you are going to do this, do not get 3 billion kelvin.

Of course you could do a proper retrofit and have great cutoff and light output. These are a set of Fx-r projectors I just got done doing for my XJ.

He's right. Go with 6k or maybe 8k. Anything higher than that is more color than light. 5-6k are bright, crystal light output.

I get all my HIDs from DDM tuning.com good stuff and cheap. I have put 6 sets in all my wife's different cars and had good luck with them. Had one go bad and sent it back and they sent me a new one. One set she had in her. Jeep has been in there for about 4 years and still working. Oh yea the are $35 for a kit.

I agree on the DDMtuning hids although it's about 2 weeks shipped. I get mine now from vvme.com and they get to the house in about 3 days

The housings are the same...I am talking trying to put HID's in a jeep housing with no projector VS> putting htem in my mazda which HAS a projector.
Halogen projectors ≠ HID projectors. Though typically they are better than HID bulbs in Halogen reflector housings. And not all OEM HID setups are projector, there are OEM HID reflector housings, though they are rare.

Are you getting the standard 35w ballast or the 55w ballast? I was gonna go with 6000k. Im checking out VVME.com and trying to decide on which kit to go with.

Mine are 5k 55w.
Anything more than 6k you are losing light output for blue color.
I don't get flashed with mine.
'00 Excursion with'04 housings (clear). You just have to aim them well.

I've ran vvme 35w 6000k for several years and had to replace a ballast once.

Bought a more expensive set for my newer truck and quality is slightly better but you get what you pay for. Same warranty. Newer one is from bosen mfg. 55w 6000k.
