AGM and Alternators

I hate Optimas. They have been crap for many, many years now. Never again, not sure why they still sell so well (Marketing!) My very first one was great back when they were not owned by Johnson Controls and cheapened up. I have a North Star in mine and don't bother with a deep cycle since it is the starting battery. Even my rear winch has a normal battery.

Agreed. I have a red top and it sucks. @NCJeeplover has a nice battery mount I want to switch to here soon so I’m not limited to only an optima.

Agreed on the Optimas. My first yellow top was great but they have gone downhill fast. My battery mount is built for an optima style battery so I replaced my old yellow with a new(warranty). But in the future I’ll want to switch. My only concern is I’m running one battery for both vehicle/winch and don’t really want to step up to a dual battery system just yet.

In other news, my “new” starter came in as well as the heat shield. The “new” starter was actually the remanned and the heat shield in no way fit my starter(even though it was an “exact fit”. Refused both and got some heat wrap. Going to wrap the starter(since it’s a “new” remanned) and hope for the best. It still cranked at hot idle, had a slight stutter but fired right up. Average volts while running at hot idle was 14.20+\-

If you’re not winching all the time over and over, are dual batteries really needed?

My 12 year old optima died and I knew I didn't want to replace it with a new one. Not a single other battery fit in the optima box because of the design so I ordered this one. It says its for odyssey batteries but it will fit pretty much any 34/78 battery. I put a group 24 in it and it fit perfect.

BTW, if you have a Sams membership, these batteries are a heck of a deal.
