Ok, so I have this $150 gift certificate to 4WDHardware and I go flipping thru the catalog to find something to get. and I keep flipping.... and keep flipping. I see a bunch of BOB items, or the things I'd like are much more expensive, winches :D . I could load up on Pocket knives and apparel, but I'd rather have a good needed part. then I see the ARG pump and steering box. My pump is shot, and hey the ARG super pump is $159 + shipping. about what I'd pay for a core swap of a china reman.

But there's a note, "should always be used with super boxes to ensure proper operation."

my question is, Does anyone know if this is a sales pitch deal? Or does it pump that much more pressure that a stock box would blow seals?

Second question, anyone want to buy a $150 gift certificate or trade it for a power assist ram? :D

Brent,
We have had a ton of problems with AGR stuff. Give me a shout to discuss.....

Andy

I would go with a pump from Station, (Performance offroad) or PSC if worse come to worse.

I've got a PSC pump that's ~3 years old, but apparently, their quality has gone down the last few years?

EDIT: I've got 2 sag. pumps that both work, one from a '04, and one older one which had the WTO "adjustments" made to it. Look in the FS section...

pm Scott, maddsjeep about the AGR super pump and steering box

his pump, and steering box had less than 7,000 miles on it, after having some steering issues he pulled both and it looked like a bomb went off inside the steering box, metal everywhere

Funny you should mention AGR products...

I was cruising the ACFW board and a kid with a relatively stock Jeep (read: very mildy offroaded at best) just had his AGR box crap out after a few 1000 miles. When he asked about them warranty, they said tough $#I+ and flew him some BS that even hitting a pothole on the road could damage them!

And don't forget Pepins AGR "ram" bending double pulling into a parking lot!

WTF? A company marketing to folks beating 40"s against rocks and their product can be taken out by a freakin pothole or speed bump? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Do they have a anti-wrap bar you could get?

From what I understand the steering box is not the problem

Scott, maddsjeep was running both the box and the pump, running a cooler in between, sythentic power steering fluid

AGR blamed it on his tire size 37's and the synthetic fluid he was running

even with the cooler, on a his last wheelin trip, his steering pump boiled all the fluid and basically blew up sending chunks of metal to the steering box, which in turn screwed the steering box

I think it is a bunch of crap to spend $500 and over on something that is not going to last a while

DING!
Well, you've squelched *this months* excuse... now he'll have to think of something new for next months URE opening (like "Jeez, it's 15 whole miles down there!")
BTW, I'm still taking offers on a set of nads!
I've got an anti wrap bar you freakin window licker. Just no welder to burn it in with :shaking:

Ya'll ain't making me feel to confident in my $800.00 AGR Superpump and box! :flipoff2:

You shouldn't be. AGR's rep has been crap for a few years now since the original owner left.

Granted, a ram bending can often be attributed to improper installation causing side loading of the ram, but if the shaft is too small, then it's too small.

37's and that evil synthetic fluid.. :shaking: AGR is going dowwn..

[salt rub]For less than that $800, you could have a PSC pump and box.. or for about $150 more than you paid, a full hydro assist kit.. [/salt]

Wow, I have not had a single problem with my AGR setup. That may be due to its age. I bought it about 5 or 6 yrs ago. I run their ram, box and a Z71 PS cooler and their pump for a SBC vette. turning 40 for yrs and now 42s. Hell it even ripped one of my high steer arms of the knuckle about 4 yrs ago at URE. FWIW 2 of the Muddevils bailed me out then.

Or it could be that the rig never moves... :flipoff2:

Josh is 100% accurate on this. The tech guy at AGR said it was due to 37s and synthetic fluid. He said the system is only designed for 33 and a locker. He then tried to sell me the ram system. he got the :flipoff2:
he would not give any off repairs because it was 3 years old but and it didn't matter it only has 3200 miles.
Well I sent my money to PSC, I hope their stuff is better.

get the knife.

i have never had a problem w/ my agr super pump, but the boxes were trouble 1st one leaked at input shaft seal ,sent it back ,second one was adjusted too tight & had a bump feeling as it went past center position sent it back, third one has worked fine for a year. best thing i have done for ps system is add a psc remote resevior and a cooler in front of rad. i would never buy agr products again, it will be psc next time.
