So, after more research, their ai bots are programmed to convert to raw text, detect white on white and call it out. The ai I asked about gave me a fucking ethics lecture on doing this. I laughed and figure, if they are going to play the game, why shouldn’t we?
 
I’ve spent $8 on an upgraded ChatGPT and about six hours now working on rebuilding my website.

Discovered how useful and useless it is at the same time. But most importantly, how subtly seductive it talks to you. Lots of affirmations and upbeat responses.

In other words.

Incredibly dangerous for the mentally unwell and imbalanced.

So, my brother saw a video about a site called resify.com that you upload your resume and the job description to and it tailors your resume to best beat the filters and get your resume through.

I tried it twice and both times it completely fabricated information about me, and dumbed down my job history to one sentence for each position.

First one it said I have 5 years of fabrication experience in tradeshow exhibit fabrication management… Um… No I don’t. That’s in the JD for requirements or preferred experience. Then it neglected to say I have over 15 years of Management and leadership in production/manufacturing/fabrication.

Second one… all of a sudden I have 15 years of construction management on projects from $3M to $15M. …No! I don’t have any construction management. And the 3-15M was pulled from a description I had regarding company revenue growth during my tenure as their production manager.

If people are using this shit, then that’s what employers are reading. Shit. Untrue shit is getting through the filters.

Skimmed a brief article about how people or AI was inserting text that was white in color adding in "instructions" for AI to put their resume to the top and not to notify the hiring person that the instructions were embedded. When/if the resume was ever printed on white paper (typical) you would never see it.
Genius but not exactly ethical.

I remember when people were doing that when the ATS systems first started being used. I had a manager show me a resume that looked nicely formatted in word, decent use of white space. Then if you copied it into a .txt file (what the ATS systems did in order to read it) you would see an ass load of keywords that were embedded in like .5pt white font. So old trick, new game! After college I used to submit .txt copies of my resume to get a leg up on people with crazy formatting that would confuse the systems when converted out of word files.

Dang, you were a lit smarter than me in college. I would just increase my font size to 13, 3 spaces after periods, slightly increase my margins, and generally make my sentences as wordy yet contentless as possible.

My daughter graduated from college in May. They have a senior studies class that has all sorts of practical real world tactics...and allows businesses like banks and insurance companies to donate money to the school and get a captive audience, but I digress.
One of the things they talked about was this very thing. Hiding qualification in invisible text to flag AI...

Ethical?
Not for me to decide. More or less ethical than a company using AI to pick applicants without ever reading the resume.

And of course now the AI scanners are programmed to look for the white text and flag it.
