air compressor

looking for a little help on buying my dad a new compressor for his garage. I need to keep the price under 600 bucks. What kind of requirements do I need to look for? The largest thing he will run is a 1/2" impact gun, and only intermittently. thanks

For your price range you will only be able to get a single stage compressor. Get a 220v and the largest cfm output possible. You can get a Husky or US general for a decent price and they would probable be fine for what your dad is going to use it for. If you were running it alot then I would go with a name brand for better quailty like ingersol rand.

If you are going to put the compressor in the garage, get an oiled pump. The oil less ones are very loud.

TSC has a 2 stage Camblell Hausfield 10.2 scfm ~60 gal for under $400 on sale right now.

xBazillion on the oiless ones being too loud.

dont worry too much about tank size if you will only be using it intermittently with an impact gun, but grinders and buffers deff need more air so get one with trhe highest cfm

Go to lowes & buy him a 20 gallon for a couple hundred bucks.

I'v been running the $hit out of mine for several years.

After that stop by the house & have a beer & gimme back my channel locks & wrench.

Does he have 220v in the garage?

garage is wired and ready. The upstairs is a wood shop and the downstairs garage will be used for light personal mechanic work, maybe split a tractor. He has one that came over on the mayflower that has been in the old shop, but it's a portable job.
