Air Purifiers

So I just pulled the trigger on a couple air purifiers from Amazon. Did a little research to figure out what I needed and which ones were rated well and ended up with a larger one for the living room (although now, I'm thinking this will go in the master bedroom) and then medium sized one for my daughters bedroom. Any of on here school me on air purifiers. I would really like to have one in our living room, since the living room, and those 2 bedrooms are used the most. Most of the ones I see for a larger living room are $300+
How do you guys have your purifiers set up, any tips, advice?

We have two in our house that my wife bought off amazon, one in our bedroom and one that seems to be in a new room every time I come home from work. I won't say they don't work, because the filters get dirty after two months or so, I'm just saying left to my own devices I wouldn't own an air purifier.

My wife and I and our daughter just seem to wake up every day with a stuffy nose, cough, and especially with the air running alot more now that its hot, I think that is what's causing it.

Sounds like a good evap coil/condensate pan/drain cleaning would help you out. No need to take junk out of the air if you quit putting it in.
No doubt and Id like to get a ductwork cleaned out as well, but I will say after having a purifier in our bedroom, running on high pretty much all day and then lowering the speed when we go to bed has really helped with my breathing. I don't wake up with a stuffy nose and can actually breath through both nostrils, which is great for someone like me who has enlarged turbinates.

I bought two Levoit branded purifiers. They are highly rated and went with a smaller one for my daughters room since its smaller and went with a larger one for the master bedroom.

I'll resurrect this thread for Easter. :)

My living room gets the late afternoon sun, and in that light, you can always see very fine particles in the air. Pollen season or not. I have cleaners come in every month, and I usually dust and vacuum at least once in between visits. Last week, I got a Levoit purifier. 1000% improvement already.

I'm going to get another one or two for the rest of the house.

@Cherokeekid88 how are yours holding up after three years? Filter life?

I work in an office with a half dozen e-cig/vapers and was getting constant sinus issues.
Bought a levoit (btw lover their humidifier) and it helped for a month and a half and then crapped out.
Replaced it with a Winix A230 and it has been kicking ass since December.

I have had our Levoit for about 1.5 years in our living room. Filter lasts 6 months when it says to change it, but by then it's covered with pet hair.

I keep it on low, so its probably not doing as much as it could for the whole room

I've never looked into these things but it sounds like I should.
I assumed they were essentially just fans, but if they have an evap coil that implies it's more of a conditioner.
Do they add heat to the room? That whole energy and thermodynamics thing.

The one I have is just a fan pulling air through a filter. Not sure about the others.

The one I have is a fan and canister filter with “activated charcoal”

And plasma wave whatever that is.

They are doing great. I usually keep each filter 3 cycles. I vacuum them and clean them out and reuse. I recently bought a shark air purifier and that things is super nice.

How do these things do for removing cat pee smell?
Got home from vacation in NC to learn our house wreaks of it, get to spend my last day off playing "find the pee stain."

I'm withholding my opinion on said cats out of concern for it being future evidence...
