I do not really want to go diving into another world of forums for info so I am asking the broad scope of NC 4x4 back grounds to help me out. I have a curious bone on owning a new higher quality air gun.
Now before I get labeled as a sissy have a few good reasons in place for owning a decent unit.

I am fairly sold on wanting a .22 caliber. I plan on scoping it and will start by sniping hornets for fun. The old Daisy 880 pump has seen better years and the front sights are all but checked out.

My small searches have found me buried all night in videos and shopping sites in a realm i never quite new existed. Holy crap I didn't know the amount you cold spend on what I was raised to call a BB gun.

And to be specific I'm hoping to find info on .22 caliber pellet shooting riffles.

Thanks NC

I have a gamo in the form of a 177, I chose it because it has more FPS, it is scoped and absolutely fun to shoot, we have a serious problem with pigeons getting into our hawg and troughs at work, nobody won’ts pigeons in ground up in the mulch. Personal preference on which caliber you choose, just depends on which you prefer bigger trajectory or greater FPS

model or place of purchase? Have you saw the newer high pressure cylinder versions? 3500 psi and higher bottles attached to them?

Wally World, I have, those are crazy, I can’t believe what mine will do and I think it is around 1100 FPS, I was skeptical at first but man this thing is fun to shoot.

I bought a .22 benjamin marauder rifle a couple years ago to play around with, have maybe shot it twice. The manual bike pump style pumps suck giant dick to fill it with, then i bought a high pressure pump to fill scuba tanks to then fill the rifle and it just became a pain too, not to mention it is as loud as an unsuppressed .22. Kind of pointless imo.

How close are you to Bass Pro Shop?
They have a whole isle full ........

I killed my first deer with a .45 caliber air rifle. We had to charge that sucker using a bicycle pump. Pretty quiet, doesn't sound like a rifle when you fire it.

There's a big world out there for air rifles, and people take bison with them. AND they can be purchased without any paperwork or background check because they aren't 'real firearms'. :)

I got into the pcp (precharged pneumatic) stuff a year or two ago. I have a Diana storm rider and a AEA HP. I just sold a break barrel Hatsan 125, it was very heavy and bulky but shot well. @braxton357 is right filling a PCP sucks, but for me I would rather put it the work to fill it all at once and get to shoot 20 or so times before having to fill it again. The break barrels I think are more of a pain having to cock every shot, the high power ones take some grunt. Make sure whichever kind you buy that it is suppressed, the unsuppressed ones are almost as loud as a .22. I really like the storm rider it is accurate, plenty of power and lightweight. The AEA is a nice looking rifle but it arrived with the wrong scope rings, has a slow leak and the seller won't respond to any of it. So I wouldn't recommend it based on that. All of the guns I have are .25 caliber.

I have a RWS Diana model 48 with a 1-5 luepold vx-3 in .22 cal. It is a lot of fun to shoot. I probably test it’s limits of accuracy shooting 40 yards. It will throw a pellet a little shy of 1000fps. My understanding has always been that if you shoot a pellet much over 1100fps, you deal with tumbling, so I wouldn’t get too caught up on the fastest gun they sell. If you choose a spring gun, be sure to get a name brand center fire rifle scope. The action of the piston will destroy a lesser scope.
My buddy had a Rws model 56 target hunter in 22. It’s a bad boy and much smoother shooter than mine.

Interesting note.

The Lewis and Clarke expedition used an air rifle for their meat getter during the trek to the pacific.

I have a Daisy 850 single pump pneumatic that was my Christmas gift from dad when I was 12. It has had countless BBs and pellets through it and other than replacing the wiper and Oring once it is still shooting.

It has lost a step and isn’t as consistent as it was 20 years ago but its a 40 year old gun.

BBs are not good for rifling it would seem.

Definitely heard some of the pre charged rifles have a report when shot. Kinda agree with that being useless. I want to avoid that completely.

I love an excuse to go get lost in those kind of places.

Good rabbit hole.
I think each design has pros and cons. Spring guns can be hard to shoot and require a lot of practice. To shoot hornets at your shed (something I’d like to participate in 😎) could you not scope your current rifle to see if it will hold minute of hornet?

Like yours it has had numerous bb's through it. Does great for running off stuff. Call it a nerdy fettish or what? I'm just flat intrigued by a higher level air gun. Having the ability to "urban" stalk some pest sounds even more fun.
I'm a notorious tight wad so the line is probably drawn in my head but the PCP guns are dang impressive.

Either route I go I want to be able to make it super quiet. Can't go alarming Karen's in the future.

I love pellet rifles, I have several. My go to squirrel hunter is a gamo big cat whisper in .177. Also have a Benjamin in .177, and a Beeman silver Kodiak in .22. All are good. The 22 is weaker imo. I do have a Crossman 2240 that I like for going walking. But it's loud and not terribly accurate, but can be easily modded to be a helluva gun.

I’m a suppressed .22 guy. The normal subs would definitely be overkill but the slower stuff in the 700fps range won’t kill the guy the next farm over. CCI Quiet being one.

Of course the big difference is weight, a sub .22 is around 40g and a .22 pellet under 20g.

I’ve shot subsonic .22 out to 400 yards down at Redondo east of Fayetteville with a group of guys. We rented the whole range for the weekend. Had a hoot.

An 1150 fps sub drops aprox 280” at 400.😎
Dialed from around 20 to 24 mils depending on the ammo.

Once you connect…it’s like sex. Reading the wind is crucial like no other shooting I’ve done,

Not trying to talk you out of pellets, I’m sure they’re tons of fun. You could name it “Hornot”. 😍
