airbag defeat?

We have a 2005 TJ sport we are restoring, which was in an accident where both air bags popped.

Wondering if there is a way to defeat the entire air bag system instead of replacing them. I read else where that you have to pull 2 fuses but I have not looked to see if I can figure out which two. Any draw backs to pulling the fuses for the system?

Also, will we have any problems starting the Jeep because of the airbags being deployed? Not sure if there is a fuel shutoff or something of that nature that would have been tripped in the accident?

Appreciate any help you can give us.

If you have to have it certified as a salvage vehicle the DMV will look for them. You can have dummy bags not hooked up but something should be there.

If they are deployed the they are pretty much allready defeted. you can just unplug the bags and they will not deploy. this will not effect the starting.

Let me know if you want it painted.

I'm up in the air on this... I've been told by a few people who have rebuilt wrecks that it does not have to be certified. But if you read the DMV page about it, they make it sound like you have to go to Raleigh for an inspection.

When or how will I find out for sure if I need to do that? When I try to get tags for it?

This was the only reason I thought I might need to defeat them. So long as it does not effect starting then whatever, ya know. heh ;)

you will have to get it inspected by the DMV if it has a Salvage title. now if it is allready in you name and you have the title then you might not have to get it inspected. All of the rebuilders I have done have need it inspected. Also I think if it in older than 5 years and it was not from out of state then you do not need to inspect it. What i would do is take it and get you tags. if they need and inspection they will tell you. depending on the Tags office they may just give you the tags and you will get a notice latter to bring it in.
Why do you not want to put the bags back In?? if you are going to sell it then you will never be able to get a good price with out the bags.

oh and there is no way to certify air bags. I have rebuilt over 150 cars and if the Airbag light go's out then you are golden the system will not work if there is any kind of error.

Well since the title was already in my name the title doesn't have salvage stamped on it or anything. It was my 17yr old daughters and she was in an accident with it. I am fixing it up for me to drive since it's much nicer than what I currently drive. The car will not be sold once it is fixed.

Just trying to put it together for cheap. I'm not saying I won't put bags back in it someday... but at like $2k or something silly... they can wait.
