Has anyone ever been on an Alaskan cruise or taken a guided land trip in Alaska? My wife and I have always wanted to go and haven't taken a vacation since we moved back here 7 years ago. I'm looking for some insight on any experiences, good/bad, pros/cons, who your cruise/guide was with ect. Thanks

We went on our honeymoon there, and the best part was the ATV tour. We did a 1 day thing, but would definitely have gone on a longer one if we did it again. We used this guy, and I'd highly recommend him:

Oh, and do NOT stay at the Millennium Hotel in Anchorage. It was extremely overpriced and undercleaned. Weird smell in the room, lipstick still on the side of the jacuzzi tub, ripped bedskirt, unvacuumed floor, and no view of the lake from the "lake view" room. And we paid extra for the "honeymoon suite" which was apparently just an uncleaned regular room and a bottle of wine. :shaking:

Haven't been but am going next summer for 2 weeks in an RV, driving around and doing a lot of fishing with the guys. :D

Everyone that I know of that has gone has loved it, be it fishing for a week or 2 or hitting up one of the cruises, they all had a great time.

What is the best time of year to go?

I've only been in July. It can be very hot in some parts, was in the 90's in Fairbanks. But it will generally be cooler than that. The whole 20 hours of full daylight, and never getting "dark" is pretty weird.

My cousin is in the Coast Guard and was stationed in Valdez. He was back for about 3 years and he just left today to go back to AK. This time he's on the island of Kodiak. I really want to go visit, never got the chance to go while he was on the mainland.

He's sent me pictures of the display in his truck saying -40 while he was moose hunting.

Not to thread jack...but it sounds like we need to get a bear/moose trip planned.

I have a budget of $2500-$3000 to go but the airfair will eat that up and to fly out to seattle and hop the big boat to go up the inner passage. So i'm not sure i'll get to make it, we're trying to get a group rate since there may be as many as 12 of us possibly going

The last time some of my family went, they all flew from Raleigh and wound up in Anchorage. I think they got a pretty good deal on the flights since there were quite a few of them as well.

(Ben, let's go!)
