when my 91 XJ gets up to about 30 mph or so the steering wheel starts going crazy back and forth. I am hesitant to use the term death wobble because thats waht everyone says it has but it would break your arm if you tightened it up. I assume the alignment is out??

thats death wobble. search it on here, its been takled about numerous times in the past few months.

Usally a vibration such as what you are referring to is associated with a broken belt in a tire or some serious front end problems. On average I do around 10 alignments a day. I can tell you that alignments do not cause vibration but people usally think they can or do. Also front end parts with normal to moderate wear do not cause vibrations, when I said serious I did mean searious. A normal to bad vibration can be from a tire out of balance. Most tire/alignment shops will check out the front end and possible check the alignment for free. I would not settle for the first shop I went to. Check around and make sure the info is constant before putting out the money to have it fixed. Let us know what you find out.
