I am wanting to build a All around rig , Something for Mud as well as something to hit the trails with.
I am kinda leaning toward a 73 Chevy 36 inch superswampers
modified 350 bored .60 over
6 inch lift

For a starting point,
Plans for it
Bob it, boat side it full ( light) cage and front and bumpers (prerunner) type
lockers front and rear

What are the Pro's and con's ?

a 72 chevy would be much cooler looking.

But that combo would take you just about anywhere you wanted to go! Why not start with a CUCV and get the D60/14 combo?

S-10s are the ticket. Start out with a solid axles swap. Stock 4.3 auto is decent. 93 and older have 700r4's with a low first gear and np231's. Almost any drivers side axle is an easy swap. All kinds of aftermarket support, motor swaps are easy, and body parts aren't hard to come by. They look awesome and do great with only a 35" tire. Plus they're hands down my favorite thing to build.

like about s10 or cucv either would be fun i like a full size rig even though i have a toyota i have onetons best of both worlds!!

Cons on full size is weight and overall size ,build cost
Pros big engine , better axle options, full frame

If I was going to build another all around vehicle I would end up building another XJ
My reasons are
1. Initial cost to buy vehicle
2.Parts availability in salvage yards and aftermarket
3.Better ride quality and best bank for you buck on lift kits
4.Pretty roomy for it's size
5. lighter then a fullsize

S10 Kills the being a full size.. I don't know want something I have not done , I love the toy, But I'm getting bored.. The truck I'm looking at already has 36 inch superswampers
modified 350 bored .60 over 6" lift, It runs like a top the guy put allot of time in to motor and trans, Body is sanded and primed. If i have to axle swap i will go big, Front and rear rocks and tires I will change them to like 44 or something

Full size Chevy like you say, cons are weight, For the wheeling you are used to to need one tons for sure. Upgrade the one ton's with at least moly outers and drive flanges.(weight) use a 14 bolt, with 36's you will drag a lot, so either taller tires or get the 14 bolt shaved.
Go ahead and get the frame around the steering box plated. It's not a matter of it might crack, it's a matter of when
Don't know what kinda money you are looking at, but getting one built will be the cheaper way to go about it. loosecannon has a nice rig for sale, with all the good stuff.

xj.... Take it out of bees nest then to the grocery store. I drive mine about 2 days a week Still has AC, windows, cruise, radio.

Chevys are cool for mud, but if you're looking for a do-it-all base platform that has a body appropriately sized for the woods too, I think you should build a 4runner.

LOL! he had an awesome 4runner and he got rid of it, thats the only reason I didn't suggest it.

I think you'd be ahead, spending 2-3k on a newer higher HP toy motor swap or even a turbo swap into your 4runner... You will spend at least that much making a full size w/ HP sturdy and capable...

all around do everything rig /= carb

I got it. You need to do a 2JZ swap it.

Throw a 7mgte in her simple mods will put it around 400 HP and it will have at least 320 torque. A lot cheaper than the 2jz & you'll probably be able to use your stock transmission without any mods. That's only if you decide on a motor swap, if I were to get a full size I would look at K5 blazers or a full size Bronco.
