All the roads are blocked! I cant get home!

I live at hwy 73 and 85 in Concord. Took me 1 1/2 hours to get to work this morning. No wrecks, just construction in the median. no reason for the delay other than no driving idiots.

Wife calls me at 9:30 last night. Coming through the speedway area a truck driver runs out of driving skills and runs his trailer across the hood of my Trailblazer, spins her arround in the interstate and keeps going. She cant get off the road because of the barrier walls on both sides and has to drive it to the next exit. Totalled the car. Could have easily killed her.

Then today 85 NB and 77 NB and SB are both closed down with truck wrecks. I am sitting here at work on Tyvola and 77 at our dealership and 77 is still a parking lot. I think I am going to Chili's and eat dinner and have a tasty beverage. Sleep in the car and just be here in the morning. I give up.:shaking:
 
At 9:00 this morning I went from Carowinds Blvd to 85 with very little problem. It was backed up to Carowinds Blvd when I headed into work at 7:30
 
I have at least 4 routes, I can take to my job in Charlotte. This morning I was starting to wonder if I could get through any, listing to TV reports. I choose 1, & it worked fine. Have learned with my experience, that most Radio reports, are WAY behind, or totally wrong. TV coverage is much better with cameras. Many times the wreck will be cleared, time you get there; except on 85, & 77. Happy Motoring! :driver:
 
Glad the wife is OK. Did she get any info on the truck.


When I get in Charlotte traffic like that I usually start experimenting with side roads getting as far away from the interstate as I can.
 
I am working south of Charlotte and have to drive through it to go home ... I dread it . I think 321 is my new route of choice just so I can avoid 85 .

Sorry to hear about your wife , luckily she is ok . Uninsured motorist should take care of the damage .
 
My boss sorta chewed me out this AM because I was 4min late (first time in over a year) getting to work because of hwy 85 traffic. I don't know why there is traffic on the hwy there wasn't a wreck, nobody was pulled over, and both lanes were open. I seriously wonder why people refuse to just do the speed limit when they are passing the construction zone. I under stand if there weren't any barriers or they were working in the street but they're not they are working in the median. I actually kept my cool until I got around exit 51 which took me almost 45min to get there from the house; this normally takes me 10min. Looks like I'll be looking for another route.

Sounds like it is time to move away from Charlotte.
 
Thanks guys, the wife is fine. The Trailblazer was slick and black, now it looks like it finished last at Bristol. There is a serious pucker in the driver's seat. The shape of the pucker reminds me of something I get to see once in a while if I have been a good boy.:lol:

The traffic camera lost sight of his tag due to the Trailblazer spinning 360's behind him smoking up what used to be a new set of Michelins.

Oh the joy!
 
I drive from Mooresville, down 77 and across 485 almost to Matthews. I've been doing it for almost 5 years. It sucks.

It is the most painful thing I've ever had to do. But I have a job, so I do it. It's not uncommon for it to take me 2 hours to get to work in the morning.

And many times there is no reason for it. Or something dumb like a truck on the side of the road with it's flashers on causing a 6 mile backup.

I've seen this alot, that and a cop that just gets on the interstate around rush hr and drives will back it up. It's like a big follow the leader line. Glad to here your wifes ok though, I85 can be hell at times.

I love the cops out of their jurisdiction that people slow down for. This morning must have been court day in Charlotte or something. I saw cops from Huntersville, Lincoln County, etc heading south on 77.
 
This 85 widening project in a complete disaster. They have completely screwed the pooch on it if you ask me. The lane shifts are very poorly marked. If I did not travel the road daily I wouldn't know where to go. I have had SEVERAL close calls because of unfamiliar drivers who have swerved at the last minute to avoid running into me or a median because of the lane markings. It's horrible.

I'm glad your wife is okay. Perhaps you can use this to complain (sue) to the powers that be about the construction problems.
 
PS. Fuck da police!

Not all of them. Just the ones that drive in the HOV lanes, use their lights to bully traffic, drive on the shoulder, etc.

Google maps on your phone with traffic layer is much more accurate.

Try coming through there at night in the rain hauling a trailer with a large vehicle on it. I thought I was going to have a heart attack before I got through that mess.
 
I cross I85 on Poplar Tent and its not too bad...
I am so glad I dont have to get on 85 or 77 for that matter.

Construction is slow and it will be like this for years
 
The widening project is supposed to be completly done from north of salisbury down there to where it opens up at cc mills by....wait for it......2022:lol:
 
All of this and the joys of 150 through Mooresville are some of the reasons I didn't take a job anywhere in the Charlotte area when I graduated from NTI.
 
Unfortunately I don't have much of a choice of where I work. In my career most of the jobs are going to be in Charlotte. What I'm really trying to do is land a permanent work from home job rather than this "on an as needed basis" crap. Then I won't have to drive anywhere.
 
To dark to get all the carnage on film. I think I might strip it down demo derby style and just drive it till it drops. Every body will get the hell out of my way, and if they dont I aint losing nothing.:lol:

I normally dont have trouble with traffic except 485 and south blvd near pineville. from 6-9AM its standstill and from 3:30 to at least 7 AM its standstill (unless im just unlucky). Ive never seen anything like it JUST LET THE PEOPLE MERGE ON THE INTERSTATE IT DOESNT MAKE YOU LESS OF A MAN
 
There is video on youtube of a foriegn study where they put x amount of random people in cars spaced out on a circular track and told them all to drive the same speed. It is just a matter of minutes before they are all piled up behind the slowest one in the group. They remove the problem driver and it happens again, over and over.

I would imagine if they did that test in NC we would cull out all except 3 or 4 and then a helluva race would break out!:driver:
 
maybe if they added more track haha something needs to be done it takes me FOREVER to get home from school
