We are sick of these clowns. Terrible customer service, awful relaibility, and compared to Time Warner, the Digital cable is a JOKE.

So besides going DSL and satellite, is there any alternative to Cable internet/digital cable around Hickory?

Clear W're sounds good if they are in your area. I was gonna go that route, but they're not in my area.

Not a lot of options
1. Charter
2. DSL thru the phone, pretty fast
3. Satellite Wild blue, hughesnet that I know of
or the old stand by......dial up Yuk!

The short answer is, if you want cable 'net - No.
Charter owns the cable lines so you can only get services from them or somebody they partner with.
In the Winston area you can get Earthlink cable 'net... they just have a contract w/ Time Warner to allow them use of the equipment. Same customer service #s etc.

Hmmm I'm interested in this myself, as the wife and I have been trying to decide if we want to get internet and/or cable to the house...we're just SW of Hickory, but so far it looks like Charter or Dish network are the only 2 choices I've found...also we're about 1000 yards from the road, and running cable to the house will probably cost a fortune...

i thought you meant charter pines.

if you don't get help at charter, please, get help somewhere.

Heehee when I saw the title and first line, I thought the same thing.
Like, "Oh man he must be having family problems. Please keep us out of it...."

I just got rid of my Charter. Sorriest ever...I am in Sanford, they only get the communities now that nobody else wants (not as profitable). I had basic cable, wasn't worth the $15 a month.

I have gone to antenna, just picked up a new HDTV, one of the local stations has an antenna giveaway program, so I got a free Channel Master 4228 with 7775 preamp. I'm on a high point in Lee County, and can pull in way more channels than I got with Charter basic...when I first set it up, with the antenna sitting on the porch leaning against a chair pointing west (most stations are N and SE from me) the auto-programming registered 36 channels available. That's plenty, because all we do is watch the News, the Simpsons, and some PBS stuff like History Detectives...we're not big TV watchers.

As for Internet, I got DSL at my office, so really don't need it at home, too. I am fixing to get the Allhell cellular Internet to take care of travel, and at the house.

As far as TV goes, weve got DirecTV, but DISH is pretty good too... course Id have antenna again b4 goin with Charter....

And we have the cheaper version of DSL, which isnt near as fast as the Time Warner that I had at school, but it beats the hell outta the dialup we used to have... and not much more $$ either..
