I am going to be traveling more for work and will need something different than my truck.

I want to buy a sedan but I want a v6-6spd. Just cause that's what I like. My wife says we need something more practical. Ie. Automatic.

She has never needed to drive my truck. And when I did have a car she never drove it. We would still have my truck just in case.

Basically the only situation would be if I got sick/hurt while we were off.

Same woman can load our boat on the trailer, in the dark, in the current.
Should I forgo what I want to keep her happy on the off chance she would drive it.

why can't she learn how to drive it? If you enjoy a manual, get what you enjoy. My wife doesn't know how to drive a stick very well, but that wont stop me from getting one next. She can learn or drive her own vehicle if that is what it comes down to.

I once bought an automatic Trans Am because my wife can't drive a stick and she might need to drive it.

After four years and her not driving it once, I swapped in a 6-spd. Now 9 years later and she still hasn't driven it.

We all have the same basic opinion. The problem is that i feel like if we are making a decision with that much money involved we should be on the same page. I just dont think I'm going to convince her. Same reasoning as to why she doesn't want me to get a ford truck. FML. I just need to sack up and buy what I want.

Not like I'm buying a toy or something impractical or unsafe.

If she wanted something. I'd support it all the way. But when I want something. It has to be exactly what she likes too.

when your balls finally drop, you will buy what you want and won't need to ask what others think

it's all in how you sell it ( and it is a sales pitch ....too your wife )

You need a vehicle you are comfortabke in, you will spend LONG TIRING hours driving said vehicle, automatics are BORING, there nothing to do but aim, you get lulled into a trance of mile after mile of inactivity.
If you get the 6spd, you'll have to pay attention, alert even, slowing down, speeding up, you have to shift, using feet and both hands, you're active. moving around, have to think about what you're doing all the time, you have to DRIVE the car.....

Enjoy your new car !

I'm in nearly the same boat cause I want a 6 speed cummins and my fiancé can't drive it. The down side is she can't drive it.

The plus side, SHE CAN'T DRIVE IT!

Your driving the car 98% of the time. It needs to be for you. But as another stated, be prepared for this to back fire a little at some point.

A straight drive is more reliable and less expensive if a repair is necessary.

Automatics are not more practical. They cost more up front, and more to repair.

I now know where I messed up. I should have told her all about the car except for the trans.

Of course I've already cut a pony from the herd. Dude has a 2" stack of maintenance records.

I let my wife read this and her response was this... ''Why not have some fun and quality time by teaching her to drive a stick? If she can load a boat, she can learn to shift gears, right?''

She then laughed at Jim's post and said she thinks he should by himself a dress.

idk...it seems like the best reasoning so far.

Talk big now big boy. You will be handing your balls over soon. And if you don't hand them over she will just take them.:D

I don't know what to say about this situation but this would be a good opportunity for her to learn to drive a stick.
I cant say much in the last year my wife has driven my 6-speed cummins more than I have plus I got her to wheel the new 4-speed jeep a little bit today.

What makes this so bad is I know that your right.

Don't be passive aggresive. Do your thing. Or you'll start threads like this. Wish I would have done it more and earlier.

Careful with this, I've got a '97 5spd 4Runner, and an '11 Camry SE ( auto ) guess which one my wife would rather drive given the choice ?

Is it really that important? Everything I have (other than her car) is a manual, just because people can't drive them anymore and they are sold a lot cheaper. My wife prefers not to drive a manual and I get that. If cost were the same, I'd be in an auto. It's just a sedan your looking at after all.

-5 man point for the question.

-5 more points for starting this thread.

Go take your kilt off, tell that woman to make you a samich and do as you please..

It's going I be hard as hell driving that 6 spd without letting your skirt ride up. Don't want passers by to see your vagina.

Sent while I should have been doing something constructive...
