AMC 258 HEI in a GM 250

I have a 68 C10 w the 250 6yl and the points dist in it is wore out.I junked a AMC/jeep 258 that had a near new hei style dist in it.Ive always been under the impression you could put 6 cyl GM Hei in a 258 w just a cam gear swap?? So if that's true could I not put a GM gear on the AMC dist and use it on my 250???

Agreed. You may however need to shim the Chevy gear to match since you have to grind the amc gear for the Chevy dist. I don't see why it won't work.

interesting, if the AMC/Jeep dizzy will work, it might not be too much work to swap a 4.0L EFI onto a GM 6cyl.

Yes except the ckp trigger. There's a way around that though, crank damper trigger wheel. Can get info on it.

yup, crank pulley trigger.


But would probly be cheaper and easier to adapt a GM TBI to it.

I suppose one could make a distributor with dual trigger wheels like on a Nissan, then no need for a crank reference
