I was wondering if anyone has done this conversion: I know that it is not common. I have a 304 that is in good shape and don't need to swap to a sbc. I have a sm465-205 to go behind it to get rid of the t150-dana20. It will also make it easier to match u joints with the 44 front and the 14 bolt rear. I was looking at the difference in advance adapters and novaks full bellhousing kits. Which one is the better choice?

go with either you can use your standard 304 bell housing and have it drilled for the sm463 but if you want to buy the kit go any of them will work fine I lean a little more to the advanced adapters kit but that is just me I am working on putting an sm465 into my XJ so were kinda in the same boat because I need an 304 bell housing as well.

I've done it and still run it.

You'll need a T4 or T5 bellhousing with the V8 pattern(401,360 or 304). Call Novak and get the adapter kit. It includes the pilot bushing you'll need and the the extended front bearing retainer. You can drill it yourself (i did) and also take a flap disk and smooth out the bearing retainer hole in the bellhousing so it fits right.

One last thing, make sure the snap ring holding the 3rd and 4th gear in place is good. if not it'll pop out of gear constantly. Mine does but I'm too lazy to pull the whole thing out and fix it. You can also fix it by putting a spacer in between the two to prevent them from walking out of place. Do a quick google if you want to learn more.
