So a buddy of mine tells me he uses ams oil in his car and only has to change it once a yr! ? Anyone else ever heard this?

I have ran it in large diesels and diesel generators, I like it a lot and need to get back into the habit. Note, if it leaks now it will leak worse with synthetic of any brand. There are several Amzoil dealers on here. I noticed it took longer for the engine to build heat from a cool crank, also the oil temp stayed cooler which kept the oil pressure a little higher. This was in a 8.9 cummins in a 30,000pound motorhome. Fuel mileage gained a little but at 70 -75 mph in a brick who's counting?

Amsoil offers a kit you send in a sample and the tell you how much life it has left...

But haven't run it in a gasoline motor?

i have a friend who's an amsoil dealer and amsoil claims every 25k or once a yr which ever comes 1st. it better be true what the stuff cost tho!

I run Amsoil in everything. Everthing includes my cars, trucks, tractor and lawnmowers...gas and diesels. The trick to running it on that mileage schedule is filtration. Oil doesnt go bad it just gets contaminated. Amsoil has a filter system but the cost doesn't justify (to me) just changing oil every 5k or you can go 10k but change the filter at 5k but I'm hard on equipment.

I used to run it in my dirtbike when i was still racing motocross. I changed my oil every 2 races though. I will say this though i ran it from '07 to the begining of '11 when i still had my bike and i only ever had to adjust my intake and exhaust valves once that stuff works like a champ. just my .02

So I take it as all good reviews for the stuff.. know about how much it cost?

Call Blane @ 336-971-6519, tell him Brad sent you, gives me Amsoil for the race jeep, best stuff ever. He will answer all your questions and is super cool

Changing oil once a year? Man, you're asking for it eventually, that's complete bull. Unless you don't drive that vehicle much.

I work on jet engines, Rolls, Pratt, CFE, Honeywell, etc. The oil in those is $35-60 a quart. We change the oil/filters on them on an hourly bases and their filters are waaaay more trick than what you have on your cars. They have chip detectors and soap (trend analysis) done on them. Full synthetic is nice but it breaks down/trashes up like regular oil eventually.

I say it may lengthen your time between changes but don't shoot yourself in the foot.

Anyway, my unlimited late model friends said the "Joe Gibbs" oil was the stuff to run as of late. I'll ask them again. (this would be for a race engine only)

And that "purple stuff", it has a reputation - purple death, search it. It got one of my trannies good.

^ I agree SSWater - "once a year" seems a little too general to me. Your mileage can fluctuate alot in that amount of time

once a year ?

The Whole issue is the mileage, + driving style! Grandma that drives around the neighborhood, & seldom gets the engine hot for more than 10 minutes, needs oil changed every 6 mo. max. As for my truck, that mostly tows, monthly, & accumulates 5000mi. per year, I change once a year. I use a name brand [Mobil/Penn/Castrol] synthetic. That's expensive enough for me; not going to pay for Ams, or Purple. Not running a RACE car! I figure the synthetic, will give me more protection against oil breakdown, due to high heat, or any problems that may arise. Transmission too! [& gear oil] Same in my 304 CJ; lots of heat/overheat/ gas wash down/, & dirt, =Average once a year, at 3-4000. It does leak some, so it also get replenished !:wheel:

So my take on this is that AMS is expensive. I cant find a price on it - you have to talk to a distributor from what I find...

I've seen 300k on 3 different vehicles. From the day they were new the oil was changed every 3k with the cheapest auto zone brand and filter.

This is the key. Yeah, you can run synthetic oil for a long time...but not 25000. At least safely. I would bet those numbers are stated "while using our fancy bypass filter". That being said, amsoil makes good stuff...and I've also never heard it called AMS oil? I also didn't know until recently that it's an mlm setup like Amway. Makes sense as to why it's so hard to find.

The rear diff in my TJ was getting very hot to the touch, and I couldn't figure out why. I put Amsoil diff lube in it and it took it from untouchably hot down to barely warmer than ambient. I was impressed. It was more expensive, but worth it for something like gear oil that only gets changed every couple bazillion miles.
