Remember the "Guess the weight of the barrel of gear parts" thread?
I just returned from the recycler and we have a winner.

According to Hendersonville Metal Recyclers, the weight of the barrel o' smelly gear parts was 1000 pounds. I looked through the submitted guess and...drum roll...

@rodney eppes was closest with a guess of 999 pounds. Can't get much closer than that!

@rodney eppes let me know what size shirt you want and your address and I send you some swag on Monday.

Thanks to everyone who entered. I'm sure we'll have another one soon!

2.5 cents per pound??

Scrap prices suck. I got 3 cents today. 2200lbs and I got $77. Fawk that.

I got $12/100 for the last car I scrapped.

That was a few years ago, though.

At the rate its going, we'll be lucky to see half of that price again. I think if it got up to $7 or $8 I would have to clean house. I refuse to sell it for less than $6.

Ive got about 1.5 ton of loose parts and 5/6 trucks that need to go but Im not givin it away @ .3 a pound.

No, $25 per 1000. Can't you read?
So to put things in persective here.
Average t shirt price is about $20
Shop rate is what $50 per hour??? and you probably missed a couple of hours of shop time???
a google search puts the closest scrap place at 7.50 miles away so say 15 miles round trip,1 gallon of gas @ $2.10 a gallon.

So it COST you $97.10 to get rid of your scrap.

Paid for a good chunk of my last rig by scrapping cars when I lived in Boone. It was floating between $9-12/100 at the yard in Mtn City at the time so it was pretty easy to turn a couple hundred dollar profit on some of them for 2hrs or so of work. The OmniSource there would just subtract 100lbs for not removing fluids or the gas tank. For that amount of money, it wasn't worth my time to mess with it.

I have 4000+ lbs of brake rotors and was considering hauling but not now!! Thanks again for doing this Jody!!

It's about $7 a hundred now for a car, it's terrible. I've got 50 or so cars in stock now and need to crush about 10, but I just can't do it for that cheap. I just had to clear off another piece of property down the road from my shop to start moving them to until the price goes back up.

If their buy prices are so low I wonder if their sell prices have come down too? I could use some more material for lathe and milling projects.
Theyre sellin for $10/100 around here.

$3.39 a gal for diesel is a up side??? I know NC taxes you guys to death on gas/fuel but that's about a buck twenty more than were payin.

Not sure where he took that pic, but diesel in Smithfield is 2.14 a gal as of 6pm tonight.

Hey! Thanks Jody! I'll pm you. As for fuel prices, in the Charlotte area, their all over the place; depends on where you look. As example, even QTs vary from $2 for gas & diesel, to $2.39/gas & $2.79/diesel! It's More weird that much SC diesel cost more than NC, yet Gas is Way cheaper, due to tax rate. Maybe SC diesel tax, is more?

How about the 30 cent jump from 87 to 89 and then 30 more cents from 89 to 93? People are all excited about gas for 2 bucks...it's still 2.60 for me!
