Getting ready to have some concrete poured.
What is everyone seeing as a yard price?

Ive got a friend who Ive known since elementary school who may be doing the job. He is pricing it as a sqft price....which seems odd. Im used to CY prices.

Thoughts and input appreciated.

Yea, i was quoted $3.50/sqft. included light grading. They didn't quote by the yard.

The last pad we did I think concrete plant charged 125ish per yard delivered.

Is square footage easier for the "newer contractors" to figure labor and materials? Or is it the general public wraps their head around this unit of measure?

I about bet the trend is because of the latter.....anymore outside of what ever your a self professed expert at your most likely an idiot. Well rounded intelligent people are almost a thing of the past.

The leap from square feet to hey he charges by the yard probably screws with a lot of folk now days.

We were told to estimate $1,500 for each 20'x20'x4". Roughly $300/yard.

Alright.

Appreciate the responses. He quoted me ~$316/yard on a roughly 10 yard project.
Seems like maybe he is a little high, but it equates to maybe $200-300 over the cost of the whole project and I would rather pay that to a friend than invite a stranger into my yard...

I do not know if it still holds true. I have heard it fairly cosistently......labor and material on a basic slab is usually darn close to twice the yard purchase price of the concrete itself.

I find that to hold true in most construction. In the generator industry install will just about equal equipment in 80% of the cases

$316/CY on just 10 yards isn’t bad at all.

I'll echo what others have said. About $3.50/sqft for finished concrete 3.5-4" thick, including light grading, forms, base prep, etc. Compared to a cost of $110-150/yd^3 just for concrete delivered. $3.50/sqft (@4" thick) equates to $283.50/yd^3. Tell him you'll roll of $100 bills instead of writing a check and you can expect a ~5% discount.
