Ok so my third speeding ticket in a year. First one 20 over, Improper vehicle Equipment. Second one 20 over, Had to take Alive at 25 classes. Still no points on insurance or license. Yesterday going down I40 80 in a 65. It is in orange county. Anyone know a good lawyer?

Brick under the gas pedal would be cheaper.

Used a PJC in the last 3 years? Now would be the time. You just gotta slow down for the next 3 years.

This.

But your track record doesnt look optimistic for this. The PJC requires a completely clear record for 3 years, otherwise you have to pay back both tickets (the one you used the PJC for, and the one you just got).

Just get another improper equipment. There's no limit to how many times you can do that. It's only 15 over, that's a pretty common ticket.

Although in the long run, looks like the PfJ would be better for you b/c it woul FORCE your ass to slow down.

i heard the changed the law a few years ago and you can only use one pfj and one improper equipment

It's different for every county on how many of each. Rowan you only get one in a life time for improper equipment, don't know about anything else.

In the end, the PO just needs to talk to a lawyer in Orange County. THEY will know the best approach (that's what the $200 fee is for) for that county.

But re: improper Equipment, the thing is, when you pull up your record, there is no way to tell that a previous IE conviction was a plea bargain form speeding. It just says "Improper Equipment". So it could also just be that you have an old truck w/ malfunctioning lights and you've gotten tickets for that.
E.g. there's no way they can set a limit to the number of itmes you can do that b/c a judge can't tell.

What they CAN do (and have, at least in Forsyth) is setr limits to when you can get that plea bargain - e.e not if charge is > 14 over or > 80 mph etc).

They rarely if ever do that, mainly due to the courts already being backed up and they would have to take you back to court on the original charge. Ask me how I know. ;)

You can also "earn" additional PJC's by doing community service. Again, ask me how I know. ;)

Some counties (like Mecklenburg) will drop/dismiss tickets upon completion of the defensive driving course. Others (like Gaston) will reduce them upon completion of the defensive driving course. The Gaston county DA feels that if their officers are out writing tickets, then they aren't going to sit in the courts and dismiss them, hend reducing is your only option in that county, and I'm sure there are others like that. Ask me how I know. ;)

Talk to a lawyer, for a couple hundred bucks this ticket will be pain free like the others, and it still won't effect your insurance. Ask me how I know. ;)

One more thing, if ever in Iredell Co, don't speed near the I-77/I-40 interchange. Ask me how I know...sigh. ;)

All of my tickets have been in diffent counties if that makes a difference. And I can't remember what my last one was changed to. The Trooper knew I had one proir ticket so i guess it was a improper equipment like my first.

But how acurate are those radar guns? I was in a pack of cars and he was a good ways up the on ramp. Hell I couldnt hit a car with a handgun at that range so i don't know how he clocked just me.

If he was using lidar then its extremely accurate. You just put the red dot on the vehicle you want and squeeze the trigger. Blam O. Gotcha!
