another turkey season ends...

how'd you guys do? I had a rough season = nada. Didn't get a head shot at one all year. Took a shot a one my buddy missed with a crossbow- but its damn hard to hit a flying turkey in the noggin!
hunted till last light today and nada. Was 30 yards away this am but two of us couldn't get a shot through the rhodo. bummer, this is two years in a row...

alls well though, caught some nice rainbows and a big brookie in my buddys stream.
took a 'technical timeout' from life and drank / fished / hunted coyotes and turkeys with an old friend= ALWAYS a good time. thanks HCORE4x4 for your hospitality!

I only went once and literally had a skunk walk out within 10 yards of me I was like what the hell I'm the only person I know that can call a turkey and end up calling in a skunk haha

had a bad season also. shot one at 15 yards, but that is the only one i had a shot at. he was a nice one though, 10 inch beard and 1 1/4 spurs. not sure how much he weighed, maybe 20. didn't hear alot. when they hit the ground they just weren't gobbling. people here were having problems with them this year. i think they started breeding early this year with the mild winter and warm weather. i was seeing some strutting in the fields near the house in late february. hopefully it will be better next season.

Between work sched. and a dang trigger finger bothering me I did'nt go at all.......... A friend called in one for his 70+ grandfather on their second trip. First trip they had one at 15 yrds who stayed behind some thick brush for 20 mins. The second trip grandpa shot his first. A big old Tom! Junior said that he was very excited and it was the second time in his life he heard the old man curse!!

They were all around me till season opened, think the farmers son across the way baited them all to his property. Then, yesterday of all days, I'm working in the garage, here all this commotion, and my neighbors dobermans were chasing them about 75 yards out. All gone by the time I got the gun!

Hunted 6 days straight opening wk in PA. Most active season on record! Mon-thurs we were on birds from 1st light till we had to be out of the woods at noon, then they practically shut down friday and saturday. We had called in a record amount by then anyway. Averaged a little over 7miles a day in the woods(thats hills btw). First morning my buddy calls 5jakes and a hen no more than 15ft past the tip of my barrel and they never spooked . They walked up the hill right to him and he starts moving his hand like a puppet talking while clucking and purring, lmao. Two jakes started strutting and then the hen went nuts. It was all I could do just to keep quiet, I was laughing to the point of tears. Wouldn't believe it if I hadn't seen it myself, shows how stupid the young ones can be at times. They never spooked and we wound up calling them back in 30mins later.

We found one longbeard so hot I made two clucks to it, it turned and came running off the field into the woods, got inside, gave one thunderous gobble, went into strut twice, then stepped in front of my friends gun at about 15yds. 4minutes, two clucks, one gobble and 60yds later he was taking a dirt nap LOVE THAT!
I should have had a couple better birds but I got a scrappy 2yr old, 9" beard and spurs not worth measuring. We only found one BB in its snood, a vine took a good 2/3 of my shot right from the begining. I ran down, jumped on it and popped its neck. That is the strangest kill I've ever made on a bird. I have no idea why it didn't fly off. Pics to come.
