So I bought some Spicer 260x u joints for the front axle of my early YJ at Oliver's yesterday. Turns out they are the 297's as I'm tearing them down last night. Problem is, I need to put this together this weekend. Is there a parts store joint worth a damn?

Are you sure you don't have 760s? They supersede 297s.

And no, not a parts store joint worth a shit. You can call around and ask for spicers, but if you find them, you'll pay a hell of a lot more than Oliver's or ECGS.

No, to be honest. They have 1.188 caps, but I didn't measure the width. Guess I'll wait till Monday and head back to Oliver's.

Is it for the same shafts that it had when I sold it? Cause that front axle was from a '95 yj if I remember correctly.

Hell, it's not your problem. I did think about asking you though. After they were not right. I wanted to put it together, so I pulled the old ones out and cleaned them all up. Greased and reassembled. They should last me a while.

Well if you don't want to return the ones you bought, I have the shafts from the original axle that will accept the smaller joints. You can have them

I needed some for my Samurai driveshaft, and bought the most expensive ones NAPA sold. Don't remember the name/brand. Some HD bla bla. They held up to a lot of abuse.
