I did some swapping and came up with an 82 Blazer K10 with a 6.2. the guy said the injector pump is bad. I know these were commom problems. My mom had a 6.2 in a 82 4x4 Suburban years ago and we had to replace it twice.

What should I look for? I know that with one battery the engine will reluctantly turn over. I only put one battery in it to get the hazard lights working for the trip dragging it home since the *&^!@# grappler operator knocked my trailer lights off at the scrap yard.

It has been too muddy to do anything to it and today we got 6 inches of snow on top of the mud so it will be a while longer before I get to working on it.

Check out dieselplace.com. Lots of good info over there for the 6.2 and 6.5's. It came in handy when I had my 6.5 basket case. Glad that sucker is gone!

Also check out www.thedieselgarage.com. That place covers pretty much any diesel ever made, and the guys on that site are knowledgeable too.

install 2 FRESH batteries, especially if it hasn't been started in awhile.

check the glow plugs disconnect them one at a time, use a test light, connect test light clamp to POSITIVE term on battery, touch tip of test light to glow plug tang, if it lights up, you at least have continuity. if no light, glow plug is probably bad.

Now you need to be careful. don't just yank the glow plugs out. if they have swollen ( and they probably have ) you need to pull the fuel injector then stuff some paper towel into the pre cup, NOW you can pull the glow plug. ( if the tip of the plug breaks off, it will either plug up the passage into the cyl from the cup, of fall thru and get caught in a valve ). Use needle nose pliers to remove broken tip from injector hole.

a lot of folks associate a smoking engine at start up with a bad injection pump or injector, when it is a dead glow plug not heating when engine is cold.

fuel knock has condemmed a lot of engines too, sounds like a rod knock, but it is a bad injector, maybe even a broken valve spring.

a lot of could be's, I'd certainly explore all options before just tossing in an injection pump
