With the new sleeper cab I wanted to explore the possibility of reusing the built in A/C unit. Inside the cab is a complete A/C heater setup w/ blower motor and small distribution system. The heat loop would be easy to use with small inline coolant heater/pump unit..

It has a an evaporator and i think an expansion valve?

1) What would I need to make this work again ? I'm assuming because it was in a 97 truck it is R134, i do have access to a deep vacuum pump and gauge/manifold set so Id have no problem assembling some parts..

2) another option i can think of is using a regular window unit and mounting it in a location where the controls can be reached AND the hot exhaust easily vented out as well as cool (er) outside air drawn in to cool it..

3) ive seen the portable style AC units but i havn't seen any under 10k and not super tall.. ??

Anyway here's what im working with...

The other things you will need will be a condenser and a compressor. And a place to put them where they'll be outside. Oh and a fan for the condenser. A window unit will definately be the easiest thing to do. Just get one that act as a heat pump, like what they have a motels, Maybe a bit smaller though.

Mike I have a A/C under dash unit from a 90 Grand Wagoneer that you could have if you want it. it is self contained.
I know you can hook up 2 units from on compressor. not sure how but my dads ford van had 2 a/c units and so did some of the suburbans.

So my research is leaning me towards the small window AC unit (like what was in the RV) The unit in the sleeper now is a RedDot unit. Its very nicely built etc.. It just seems there isn't an easy (cheep) way to attach a pump and junk to this system.. An $100 window unit will fit in from the front, and I can duct it out the bottom with some alum. Thanks for the input..
