Anybody have anything good or bad to say about the newest model toyota Tacoma’s? Thinking about changing up. Thinking of a 17 or 18 to just commute .

I have a few customers that do really light stuff in theirs. Depends how big your trying to go i guess. Cant speak from experience on real builds.

There is a badass video floating around from a few years ago where a taco sunk itself into a inclined sand dune. Has a feature that uses the abs to stack sand underneath it and crawl back out. It was down in there. Cool feature i dont imagine using but hey was cool never the less.

I’ve run older models but nothing newer than a 98, just trying to find out info on how the newer drive trains are holding up.

Well looks like they have strayed away from the old 4.0 v6 which is what most of my experience is with. Ill do some digging on fourms and see if i find the downside to the new drive trains/

Well just from some quick snooping around looks like EVERYBODY is knocking on the 6 speed automatic trans pretty hard. None of the offical sight reviews note them as very impressive. The lowest evaluated category for the taco was Performance from the big guys. (Edmunds Car and Driver) Cant find alot of long term data on them though.

I had a 11 taco loved it with the 4.0 towed my buggy everywhere my dad has a 16 and my wife has a 17 they have the 3.5 now wich is a good engine just not the power the 4.0 hand imo but unless your towing a car trailer there fine and have had 0 issues with any i have ever owned i drive a 15 tundra dc now and i miss the small taco

Think the 3.5 will have any problem pulling 5000#s

The new Tacomas are junk. They give us trouble in every way. I wouldn't have one for any reason. Buy a 15 and back Tacoma or a Tundra.

Is it the drivetrain or is the whole truck made cheaper/ worse than the 15s.

Everything. I mean, you can give me any Toyota and I'll tell you what's gonna break. The damn 16> Tacomas have issues everywhere. Interior, powertrain, electrical, the shitty 3.5, you name it. And it sucks. They are great looking trucks, but no way would I ever own one.

The real question is there a better option is the 17 Colorado any better or the frontier i dont think so we have 2 neither have ever been in the shop given one had 40k and one has 8k and i promise the Tacoma will crush the others on resale so if your going to buy a new mid size truck i really feel its the best option

He works for Toyota and has for a long time. . Id trust anything he says about one.

I understand if he works with them every day then he probably knows a lot more than most of us, josh has two and neither has yet to have a problem I’m guessing not every one made has a problem.

They appear to be selling well...what are the specifics of the problems? Just new model issues and are all covered under warranty? What's the most common issues?

I've heard they are way under powered, transmission shifts way too much. I personally test drove a 16 Tacoma. Got back to the dealership after a 3 mile test drive and bought a Tundra. I've owned several 1st Gen Tacoma's and 2 2nd gens, loved all of them. The 3rd gen, just didn't stack up the past gens.
