so im a dummy and was using my winch rope to to cycle my suspension to see if my bump stops where working correctly and it broke about 6 feet from the end I have watched some videos on you tube and the repair seems fairly simple but I really just don't trust my self and would love some one who has done it before to give me some input I have used my winch in places that if it broke I could have got hurt very bad and that's why im kind of nerves about the repair

Just take your time and splice it. FWIW, I tied a bowline in DAWGTOYs winch line a couple years ago at Harlan cause it broke right at the hook on the trail. Was planning on splicing it at camp that night. 2 years later it hasnt broken. We used it pretty hard in OCT at lions den and it held up.

BTW, use a knot only as a last resort or a quick trail fix. Never intend to leave the knot as a permanent solution. A knot will reduce the amout of load the line can handle at the point of the knot.

ok you guys are building my confidence

A little up date with all the incorgment I started on the winch rope last night after looking at the specs I decided I didn't have enough rope to do a splice and I had to make a new fixed eye so I did a fixed eye lock splice from a single end abd this is how it turned out

i picked up a new thimble from northern tool on the way to work and I will put it in tonight and Bary the tail I picked this method beacuse you don't have to sew a lock stitch in the line the rope locks on it self
