i just came across a 1981 quarter that has no "tail" side. it only has the head side. i always thought that coins were made from one piece of coin blank, but now i am not sure? i looked at it and it doesnt seem to have been forcefully removed and it looks like copper on the inside?

i tried to google it and came up with nothing that looks like it? anybody here collect coins and have ever seen or heard of this?

It does sound like a Mint error. hold on to it. I come across some cool stuff every now and again (work at a bank). Lady in my office found a $20 in not so great condition with no seal on it. Somone ended up giving her $100 for it. I have a couple pre '65 kennedy half dollars. pretty neat stuff.

i thinks its worth about half of face value, unless you have the other side to go with it.

kidding. Yeah, they are stamped from a blank....two sided. not like an oreo with a top half and bottom half.

sometimes mint errors can be worth something, some times ...not.

also verify that it's not a counterfit- fwiw (i'm an ultra-amateur, and have a 2011 issue of the us coins collecting book, so dont hold me to it.)
