Any dove hunters out there?

I'm looking for a good dove hunt for my dad and I.

I'm in the Charlotte area, so closer would be nice and cost doesn't really matter. I just need a place to go!

So far my research has only come up with one paid place and they are sold out.

I'm about to search craigslist, but thought I would come here first for some suggestions.

Any help?

Thanks!

Just curios, do you eat the doves or just sport? Doesn't seem like there's enough meat to justify it.

Eat them? Nope, it's just a good excuse to shoot something. I have a barrel full of their little orange legs that we keep as trophies- probably in the thousands by now. That reminds me, if anyone needs any miniature orange legs for like Christmas ornaments, or just random household decoratives, we have a ton. Just PM me and I'll throw some in an envelope.

Just kidding- we eat them. Not only that, but cooked with our family recipe, it is my favorite wild game for dinner.

Ok, so dove and pigeon look very similar. How do you tell the difference? Have you ever had pigeon?

Sorry about the hijack.

I'm not sure if you have some hidden anti-hunting agenda in this thread- but in case you are serious:

I have hunted dove off and on for the last 25 years and have never seen a pigeon fly over a field. Dove are pretty easy to identify.

I have seen pigeon fly over a dove field, and surprisingly they do have an extremely similar wing profile (not sure if thats the word, but dove hunter's know what I mean)

That said, never close enough to actually shoot at the pigeon mind you....and yep Dove is some damn tasty eating

i go to a great field out in west lincoln but Im always invited and cant invite others. Sunflower and millet all over the place. The past couple years it has been nothing short of a massacre out there

Guy I used to work for has 40 acres of brown top millet that he lays down 3 weeks prior to season. He turns it every day for the next week then round bales it and leaves the bales in the field. Pm me and Ill get you his number. Its in western Cleveland County.

Not trying to hijack either, but I am in Guilford county and also looking for a good place to hunt doves. Willing to throw some $$ in as well for the property owner. If anyone has, or knows of a place in the triad area, let me know.

Gubni - most people use a 20 gauge or 12 gauge; number 7.5 or 6 shot.

A lot of fields I have hunted around here have some high flying doves, and the lighter loads can't reach out and touch them. Personally I like 7.5 high brass with 1oz shot, never had much luck with the 7/8 oz.
