I had a family member get a DUI in Greensboro this past weekend. It is #3 for them in a period of 5 years and two have been within the last year.

Anyone have any suggestions/recommendations for lawyers that are capable of handling this in/around Greensboro?

Thanks.

If guilty... HIMSELF!!! Wasting more money for a lawyer in my opinion. Money can't buy free tickets out of DUI's anymore...
No seriously, take a bath (if not a regular thing) and get a clean cut haircut (if needed) and wear their best Sunday shirt along with an apologetic toungue. My preference with matters like this is to wear a nice pair of blue jeans when asking for sympothy of any kind. Kinda shows a "poor" look like every dime is taking money from your kids mouths. I don't own dress pants anyways.
All this worked for me my DUI years ago. But it wasn't a 3'rd offense either...

Sounds like she needs counseling instead of worrying about getting out of trouble. I hope she gets time, no sympathy here for drunk drivers.

Yeah, I have no sympathy as well. We all have tried to help in the past, but doesn't seem anything has worked. Sad too because she just graduated from App this past December and would have been looking for a job...

yea dui are not a good thing to do , i had a good firend get killed by a drunk driver, she needs time to make her see what is impotant in life , but i dont want it to seem like im talkin bad about your family , this is just the truth ,

yeah, it's sad when it comes to that. but some people really do need those drastic events to help them see the light. just got to hope she is smart enough to realize that changes are needed and strong enough to make them happen.

Chuck Alexander is pretty good. he is in winston but has pull all around here.

She may end up w/ a breathalyzer (sp?) on her car via the state......PITA (I used to install them).

Good luck, hope she finds help befroe she hurts herself or someone else.

I'm expecting to see the breathalizer installed in her car, when she finally gets a license back, like maybe in 5 years...

I'd also expecte to see her do about 30 days and prob. at least 500 hours community service. This is a guess, we'll see how close I am.

From what I hear, the breathalizer is to be in the car for 10 years now. Supposed to be a new law, upped from the 7 year requirement from before. Whatever, I don't keep up with those laws as I don't need to. Just looking for a little help for her so she get some decent representation. Not really looking to get her out of it, but to make sure she doesn't get screwed as we all know the system will do it to ya if not careful

Unfortunately I know from experience, got one when I was 23, totalled my Jeep and this was my 1st and only violation of the law. I got "the best" lawyer who didnt do anything but take my money and drop a frivelous wreckless driving charge that came with the DUI. They threw the book at me, 30hrs alcohol classes, breathalyzer (blow n go) in the car for a year, plus I had no car. It really hurts the pockets!!

I learned my lesson since then, I totaled my baby....and almost myself.

What I dont get, is I know a guy, he is 24 and on his 4th DUI. Now I know he will never be able to legally get behind the wheel, but why is this guy not in jail?!?!

There was a next door neighbor of mine who had 2 DUIs and had to take the classes the same time as me, didnt have to to get a blow in go and got less hours in the alcohol classes as me (he lied as I did not on the assesment test as the majority of the people do).

I know a girl who ran her car into a house and was drunk and underage.. She got out of it?!?!?

So overall, it doesnt matter really about the lawyer, its more the circumstances these days... I mean, I have never broken the law, dont have a record of anykind yet I get the harshest punishment and cost me over 5k bucks when done.

If you want, maybe I could shed light on her situation for her. I have dealt with alot of binge drinkers and was one myself. Heck grad App as well, and college is where the problems stems from unfortunately. But if you need any advise let me know, I know alot of lawyers in this area and know alot about the law when it comes to this.

You definately have the right idea though, she will get a manditory 30 days in jail, probably 150 hrs community service (which she will have to pay $300 to do), alcohol classes - $20 to $30 per class dependant on how many hrs (20 hrs min, 40 hrs max). Intoxilizer in the car - $200 install, $120 per monthly service, $30 per every fail, if you lockout the car from 3 consecutive fails you will have to have a Monitech technician reset the computer at a $70 service charge plus trip charge. Lawyer $1200 easy, fines $500, Insurance increase for 7 yrs, buy her license back after 30 days until conviction date will be $75.

We are lookin at $4k right there. So have her save her money, get a decently priced lawyer, and suck it up. Shes guilty.... They arent going to give her a slap on the wrist either way. Good luck with it all!

Guilford county - there is a good chance she may get weekends in jail / so hopefully that will allow her to still move forward with getting a good job, etc. We have a guy in our church now, and #3 for him, and he is doing weekends in Forsyth county. Gsbo jail has a bad reputation though / not sure where they put the ladies though.

Tommy (Tom) is a good guy / a long time client and friend of our CPA firm. He is reasonable / has a good history and knows the local judges. I think he would be a good person to help her out. Does not mean she will get out of it / but he can help with finding the best programs for her / right judges to get her in them, etc.

Well, her first one was in NY and she was underage and had some weed on her. Ended up running the car through a stop sign straight into the pond in the center of the East Hampton, NY village. Lost license for 3 years or so. She just got her license back like 1 year ago. Recently she got a DUI in Boone, I'm guessing withing the last 4-6 months, then just this last Friday in Greensboro.

Shes not a binge drinker, just i think that she has issues with drinking and driving. we're not really sure what to do now but to just let her ride it out and take the consequences.

$1200 for a lawyer? I was thinking at least $2500, but it was just a guess. However, she still has to deal with the consequences of #2, so in the end, it'll end up costing just about double...

She has a meeting Monday in Greensboro, so we'll see what comes of it

I hope they take her license for good. I've got no sympathy for drunk drivers. I don't want to see her thrown in jail, because then our tax dollars would be supporting her, but I'm definately down with her never driving again.
