So I have a 2004 Ford Focus ZTS, 2.3 Automatic double overhead cam. I was away from home for 8 months and when I got home started having issues.
The trans I had would not go into second or fourth, the RPMS would go through the roof and it would be like i was reving in neutral. After i let off of it, it would engage and do the same thing at 40mph but only those two gears. I am great on engines and body work, hell I can rebuild an engine but I am no good with trannys.
Anyways, I ordered a used transmission for $900 (cheapest i could find with 140k miles on it...bullshit) installed in, and that SOB makes a loud grinding noise (sounds like its coming from the bell housing) and will not engage in reverse, drive, nothing...just rolls forward. But will sit in park. & while the car is running the RPMS go up slightly and the speed goes up to 30mph and bounces around a bit. I thought maybe the pump was bad, so i removed a line from the trans and only a little fluid is dripping out but its def. good on fluid level.
I called around to about a million trans shops asking questions and heres what I got. "broken axel, pump, stripped convertor, needs rebuild"
If anyone has any useful information it would be greatly appreciated. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. If anyone knows how to rebuild a tranny, I will do a complete body restoration and paint job, or for an 03, 04 ford focus tranny.
If someone is close to the area and could stop by my shop and check it out I would pay you.
I just know the Military doesn't pay great and Ive spent $900 on the used jacked up tranny, about $25 in fluid, $20 in gasket and filter, and $30 in a seal. and hours of labor.
Anything will help.
THanks!
