I spent about an hour cleaning the mold out of a 2-3 year old window unit a/c yesterday, thanks to the fact that they do not put drain holes in the bottom any more. After cleaning, I decided to add some drain holes and managed to cut a hole in one of the tubes sticking out of the side of the coil. Anyone able to solder that back up and recharge for me? It's a cheap unit, and I've already replaced it with a bigger one (it's too hot too wait), but I hate to just trash it now that it is all cleaned up.

I realize that it may cost as much to repair as it did to replace, just wanting to make sure before I cut it up for scrap.

Its possible to solder it back. Look up what refrigerant it takes though. I'd be glad to do it if I was closer.

How cost effective is it to recharge, once the hole is fixed? I don't think these things have ports.

Honestly probably not at all.

The hole can be soldered( silver solder) and cut a line and solder in an access valve. Maybe add a drier / filter in one of the lines and then use vacuum pump before recharging.
