I would like to start a local wheeling club. I would like to call it Lake Wylie Wheelers. It would be nice if it was a non-profit organization. Even if it would be an E-only club, I would like to try it. I have no idea where to begin, or any legal matters that might need to be addressed. I figure York co. S.C. Gaston co. N.C. & Charlotte area people might be interested in something like this. Of course I would not want to put any geographical limits on any would be members. I was thinking if it would be a big hassle to found an actual legal club, than maybe I could start an E-club on this board. Short of that I may just form a large buddy list. Any thoughts on this matter will be greatly appreciated! Thanks Paul.

Why not just get a group of folks and go wheeling? Come up with a name, and keep going wheeling together.:driver: Thats the best way to get started. After that, the membership will start taking on the foot work and next thing you know, there is a new club born.

Hey Dylan, I have been meeting with several local people. At wranglin101's event (another one August 9th), & at meet-n-greets. There are probably 20 or more who are interested in joining, if I can get it started. My main concerns are whether York Co. S.C. would want some kind of license/permit to be obtained if anyone knows. If not I guess I could go to the county seat & find out. Also I'm wanting ideas & opinions on what it takes to run something like this. I notice busy schedules have been keeping some people from attending these events. So I am thinking NC4X4,com would be the best way to address all the club members. We are all board members anyway. ( This is where I met them all ) Is it possible to really have a club with no dues?

I have no time either. But I really want to get started with this. I had asked around about helping someone else starting it. Now I'm in (wanna get it done, then do it yourself) mode! So anyway if I can do it without fundages, then you & Mike & anyone else are hereby included. At this point, the only requirements I can think of are members must enjoy at least talking about wheeling. If you become a member please try not to make a bad name for the club. Getting stuck in a cove that was exposed by low lake levels with"Lake Wylie Wheelers" spray painted on the side of your rig is the type of thing I'm talking about. I read an article in the pilot last year. Someone did this & there were pics in the paper of it.

Sure it's possible to have a club with no dues, as long as the club does'nt have or create any club expenses. No reason for the town or anyone to need a permits, unless you want to become a non-profit org. then of course you will need to apply with the state. I am not a moderator or anything, but I dont see why Rob would.nt give you a spot in the clubs column. I guess he or they would have to chime in on this...........look out, they're watching:alien:

Thanks for the input Dylan! I am looking to do this as cheap as possible. (free is better) So I may forgo the non-profit org. thing. In Philly you cant shake hands with somebody without the proper permits, I haven't been here long enough to know how it all works. But I have noticed the state seems to want taxes paid before you do many things. I think I'd like to get the ball rolling & see how strong it looks, before approaching Rob about a spot in the clubs forums. So right now it looks like it's Justin, Mike & I. Since there prolly wont be any bumper stickers any time soon. Maybe we could chip in on a can of spray paint & tag the sides of our rigs NYC style.

BTT
