I have a donor truck setting out back. It is a 1978 F250 with 83,000 original miles on it. My dad bought it with 8,000 miles on it back 1984. It is a 400ci/granny 4 speed and I recon a 205 tcase. The truck is super rusty and the axles taken. The engine ran good when parked, just needed valve seals. I actually drove to NC from Indiana in it.
So the question is what would the engine, tranny, tcase be worth?
Are they worth the effort to pull vs going to the scrap yard?
Thanks!

I have a buddy that is restoring his grandfathers truck that maybe interested in it

The 4speed and 205 are worth pulling to sell. Not much demand for the 400 unless it's a resto. If you can make out with $600 total I'd say you're doing alright.

Thanks guys.

I just sold a clutch setup for $400. Pedals / linkage / bell housing / fork / backing plate.
The speedo gear clusters are going for firm $100 on ebay all day if good shape
If the plastic inner door panels are any good, they go for high $
Steering column - $100-150 good/excellent
$300+ if it's a tilt.
Radiator support - $100-150 good / excellent
How's the front fenders / grill? Fenders go for $80 and grills $150 if good condition
Oh yea, just sold a rear sump pan setup for $100 although they go for up to $300 for there is nothing reproduced except aftermarket for around $350. And the stock ones are getting rare. And have a demand.
Brake booster brackets $20
brake distribution boxes - haven't checked lately but I was getting $50 all day.
Frame items can have value if you find a buyer.

I've parted over 40+ of these trucks (lost count). Know em well...

I'll bet ya it's a NP435.;)

Both trannies are good stuff though.

Fastest way to tell 89wrangler (besides the tag) is NP435 has aluminum top and T-18 is cast metal.
Ford used both transmissions interchangeably back then. My 78 has a 435 and came stock with it, but I swapped in a t18 from a 78 bronco for six months of wheeling season til I could rebuild the 435. I liked the 435 just a little better for wheeling because the granny gear was a little bit lower.

Another easy way to tell them apart besides the tag or the top cover material is by the way the shifter is held in, a t18 shifter has a collar you unscrew to remove the stick, the 435 does not. It has a sheet metal plate you have to push down on while turning similar to a tail light bulb.
