Or at least anybody who thinks they are.I happened up on some old lumber I was gonna use to make shelfs out of but wanted to make sure of what it was before I used it.I'm assuming its ship lap by the way its cut. It's all about 60 inches long and probably a true two inch thick and reasonably heavy.Anybody have any ideals?? @GotWood or @Jody Treadway maybe??? It doesn't have any nail holes so I assume its never been used.

How much ya got?
Not sure. It's a decent size stack but its mixed w other size boards.Probably enuf to do a accent wall (or two) but that's about it.

Oak or Ash. Hard to be certain from the weathering. Sand a section off and you could tell better. Send me some shavings and I'll chemical test it for a positive ID.

I might just do that, thanks.I grabbed this piece off the top of the pile so Ill probably check to see how the rest of the pile is before I get too deep in it.

Probably top piece because of the back angle, if it's exterior siding. Bottom would make a water trap. Are all the pieces rabbeted like that?
IIRC the rest have it on both sides.

Ah, that makes more sense. Yep, probably leftover shiplap if there's no nail holes. That seems massively thick for siding, but I don't know anything about old building practices so dunno.
Yeah I thought it was kinda thick also.

a good fresh cross section would tell us if it was white oak. The porous earlywood rings and rays would give it away.
Quick nerd question...and maybe the only thing I remember from Dendrology - tyloses makes white oak famous and special for what purpose?.....

Whiskey barrels. All I got.
