Anybody bought a laptop recently?

People just don't like the thinkpads because "they're ugly"

That, and the screens suck. And the touchpads suck. The keyboards are kinda nice, though.

I don't have a preference on AMD v Intel. Most of the desktops I've built are AMD because the price/performance was better. Most of the manufacturer-built boxes have been Intel.... again, because the AMD-based systems were targeted at the low end of the market, so everything else was a little on the crappy side.

just ordered a 15" macbookpro. Im DONE with PC's. apples are like small block chevys and TSL's- they just work

lenovo i7 core is what i've been rocking for a year or so... it's been a great little laptop so far... the link you posted isn't a bad little laptop either...

There's also the Panasonic Tough book. I went to their website and built one like I wanted and it was a bit out of my price range. Something like $9 grand or so, but it was everything proof including EMP.

Man oh man...some of these specs absolutely blow my mind. I had a Dell desk top 'built' 7 years ago for somewhere in the $1500 neighborhood, and it couldn't touch the specs of these $400 laptops you're talking about. That said...it is 7 years old, with the original CRT monitor...and it works as well as the day I first plugged it up. Same deal with my laptop...bought a Toshiba Satellite 6 years ago, and had it 're-worked', final price was about $1200...but still works just fine on a daily basis. I was thinking last year that I needed to get a new computer, but decided I'll run them until they die...but bought a couple external hd's to back my stuff up.

I bought one of those cheapy Gateway "netbooks" just for traveling with (so I won't care so much if it gets messed up). For what it is I think it works great, albeit a tad slow. Having a WiFi computer with camera card slots built in is great.

But...it was only $230, and you get what you pay for.
