At 25 years old, i went for the first time yesterday and had a freakin blast. My wife expressed interest in it so i bought her a maverick 88 w 28" barrel with accuchoke system( has modified). She almost cut her right thumb off earlier this week so i took that as a sign to go break her 12g in with her uncle. Shot alot, missed alot, came home with two, but had a ball. Sooo today i went and bought a used mossberg 835 ultimag 12g chambered for 3.5mag 28"barrel with accumag choke system, which has modified in it but just went and bought a full choke today to see how i do with that. Anybody have any tips or tricks? Live around rowan county and want to go? Im hooked, and stoked for tomorrow morning!

IMO Improved cyl. choke will bag more doves w less damage , so they're more fit to eat. Use 1+ ounce loads of shot. On passing birds, put the bead on'em and move with them and then pull ahead of them and fire. You want to lead or shoot out infront of fast flying birds; almost right at them if they're slowing, descending, or real close. You might use tighter chokes- mod, full, on windy days or when they're flyin higher. Don't tell anybody, but they're good eatin too  I'm going again tomorrow.

Salt brine for sure, I put herbs in mine sometimes too. Mine are now marinading and will be bacon wrapped and grilled tomorrow, beside the field, while we hunt again, if the weathers good. Good luck to you tomorrow. I saw alot less hunters than last year on Saturday and plenty of birds.

I agree with ^^^. A full choke is gunna blow them apart when you hit them. Basically, all or nothing with those. My grandpa wouldn't let my dad shoot quail with a full choke because he always tore them up too bad :D

Daily baglimit is now 15....................number of slices in a pack of Gwaltney Applewood Smoked Bacon..........15..............coincidence?????

I hunted Saturday and today and will probably go again next Saturday. I'm 26 and have been going since I can remember. Sunday I grilled Saturdays kill, put garlic salt, black pepper, a couple jalapeno slices and wrapped them in bacon, that jalapeno really did the trick! I like to hunt over mojo decoys, only thing is a lot of the time when the birds see the decoys they fly in too low to safely shoot. I like an early morning dove hunt better than an afternoon hunt. This year I've been using my 20 gauge with a full choke and none of the breasts were too badly mangled, I like a full choke so I can reach out and touch em.

I usually shoot #8 or #9....with a skeet choke tube. Lead depends on how fast they flying and how high/far.

Love to DOVE hunt. Didnt go this weekend for the first opening weekend in 34 years

There's plenty of season left Ron, I hope you can go sometime. Sat. was the best hunt ever on a field i've hunted for 3 years. Today they quit at 9:30ish but came back in the evening. A good corn crop this year should mean good fall dove huntin.

We hunted at pee dee using full choke and 5 or 6 shot. Can really reach out and touch um with that, just don't shoot up close cause you'll never find the bird.

Got one with my new(to me) 835 yesterday. I got a little triggerhappy and doubletapped him though, my buddy joe got a kick out of that. Cooked em up and ate what we had....there was only 4 though. I really want to find a good place to hunt, as where we are were just gettin stragglers from a nearby field that has been setup. We only saw around 9 yesterday afternoon

Love to dove hunt. I use my 870 w/ 28" barrel and modified choke. Use #7 shot and generally don't mess the meat up too bad unless they are flying low and at me. Later in the season (after they have been shot at a lot), I move to #6 shot since they typically are flying higher and faster. Hunted south of Greenville and had my limit by 10:30am or so.

Went on a morning hunt last saterday in Bladenboro and limited out in an hour and a half. Birds were flying like crazy. Looking to go again in the next few weeks at our other farm in clover.

True that! It's a good thing you don't have to use steel shot on doves or you'd never be able to hit one....

Hmm apperantly we have a bad spot, basically just stragglers.....as my wifes uncle and i have only gotten 7 doves between the two of us since season opened

Please?
:D

Lets do it. Hadnt checked this thread from the other day haha.

Um... if you need more shooters to move the birds, I would love to come along with my dad. I have missed the last 4 seasons because of work. I mean.... that is if you don't mind random people on an internet forum inviting themselves.

;)
